Is it acceptable to not be fond of the elderly?

I don't nescessarily dislike the elderly, but they're a group of people I'm not interested in associating with because I feel that most of them are not open minded thinkers. Most of them are very prejudice and such. But of course if I we're to run into an elderly who's an open-minded thinker, I would welcome them.

Is it acceptable to not be fond of the elderly?

It's acceptable. 35

Hehe, I went through nearly every colour yesterday and confused a whole bunch of people. It was fun. I've repurpled myself again now, though. :D

Hmm, well, can I talk to you for a moment about the benefits of joining the purple club? We have many cool members (don't listen to the cool blue people... they only have so many recruits because it's the default colour) and we'll give you a free pen when you sign up for one year's membership.

            Dealio?

I guess we get used to things and are surprised when they change. Like that time Michael Jackson became white. There was a big hoohah for a while and then people just accepted it.

    • I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but I don't think " not being fond " is the right way of saying it, because it seems like I've given you the impression of not being open-minded either, which is my fault. If I see a good elderly person, I would not mind talking with them and having a good time with them. It's just that I'm not real interested in getting to know that person if I just happen to see them walk by me and such. Everybody does that with any group of people.

Statistics have shown that people 65 years+ are the most likely to be racist/prejudice. During the presidential campaign, over 90% of whites 65 years+ favored Hillary over Obama. Studies have also shown that only 18% of the elderly are in favor of gay rights.

Not every elderly person is a bad person, and I'm the kind of person who likes to give every person a chance if I we're to meet them. But, the evidence is there that older generations are much more old-fashioned thinkers, which means they tend to not be as open-minded.

It was sarcastic, yes. And a bit snappy, despite me agreeing with some of your original points. I'm going to apologise. I actually started typing a long reply to you and deleted it because nobody seems to read long replies.

What I was initially going to post is that people are selfish. We're selfish when we're young and think everything is about us. We're selfish when we're middle-aged and we both pass judgement on the young, and farm our old off into homes. And we're selfish when we're old and become conservative and resistant to change because we want the world the way we want it and don't think anyone else should have a say.

It crossed my mind that you were being selfish too but, in retrospect, this seems a bit harsh. However, what caused me to post what I posted was that you labelled a group of people as prejudice. There may be prejudice amongst them and you may not like it (neither do I, for the record), but I think you and I should dislike the prejudiced (regardless of their age) rather than judge a group of people who, admittedly, may be more prejudiced as a body, but aren't necessarily as an individual. You kind of hinted at this in your reply to me. I don't think our views are actually that different. So, yeah, I do apologise for the snappy response.

  • You're being the very thing you hate: Close minded. And I love old people so consequently my care cup for you is empty right now :*(

Old people have experience, they have wisdom; to scorn them is to scorn knowledge.

It's certainly understandable. Most elderly people are closed-minded, but then again it seems that people in general are.

I think it's best not to assume too much what someone is going to be like based on their age. Some old people are miserable, angry or boring fucks - and some are insightful and wise. I treat old people the same as anyone else.

Noam Chomksy and George Carlin are two of my favourite old people.

So wait... You've pre-judged all the elderly to be prejudiced?

You don't see the irony in that?

That's like nagging someone about drinking too much as you drink a case of beer...

It's not that you're supposed to be "fond" of them. Even if you're not "fond" of them, at least be considerate to them and have a healthy level of respect and be kind.

What's wrong with you all? OLD PEOPLE ARE JUST YOUNG PEOPLE THAT GOT OLD!. I know this may seem obvious but from some of the comments you'd think that old people are a seperate entity and a whole new subspecies lol. I'm only 27 but those golden chances I get to glean knowledge are precious.. I understand people get stuck in certain mindsets but hey as long as you understand that then you'll understand they'll take their head trips with them to the grave. I always dig a bit.. See what they did wrong in their lives so I can avoid the same.. And if theyre stubborn I might joke with them about it. If you chat to them like their your own age, and see them just as people and don't play along with any nonsense, and don't make them feel retarded, you might be less motivated to think about stupid things like this and more important things like' what's in the fridge I'm hungry lol!

just remember you're going to be old one day, I don't really like them, they creep me out, but being young unfortunately doesn't last, so respect them anyway because one day you will be old and deserve respect as well.

Um, Anonymous, just because people who were over 65 favored a white WOMAN over a black man, does NOT mean they're prejudiced. All it tells you is who they voted for.

I find it sad that there is so little understanding of statistics in this country, and what the numbers say and don't say. Usually, you can tell more about the person designing the study and their conclusions, than you can from the data. This is because most surveys are badly worded, and designed to say what the group who designed it want it to say.

The data from very simple surveys can be used in any way one chooses (More people voted for Kennedy than Nixon, therefor most U.S. citizens are Catholic). I can use a simple set of stats to say what I want it to say. Hence, apparently all of those who voted FOR a fairly experienced white woman, or anyone else with actual decades of experience, (not against an extremely inexperienced black man) are none-the-less anti-African-American ... even those who were black... no, they are just confused, brain-washed or "OREOS".

What statements like this say is that the people making them are racialists and arrogant, apparently believing that only they know what's right. One could easily draw the conclusion from the same statistics, that everyone who voted for ANYONE other than Hillary are prejudiced against WOMEN ... including all the women (even black women) ... no wait, they're not prejudiced, just brow-beaten by their husbands. How about they just voted for whoever they voted for and you ASK them why ... again the stats and your logic are very weak.

If you are going to use stats, please try to understand what the numbers are saying and what they are NOT saying. And yes, I was a research scientist and spent a decade designing studies that tried very hard to eliminate as much bias as possible, from the statistical data collected.

By the way, given that you used the last presidential election process as an example, I thought I might point out the fact that a younger man won, despite his near total lack of governmental experience (when compared to his elder opponent), PROVES that most of the citizens of the U.S. are prejudiced against OLD people! Of course this means a lot of old people are prejudiced against old people.

There are three kinds of people in the world who you can't trust, Liars, Damned Liars, and STATISTICIANS! (Lawyers and Politicians come under one of the first two categories).

...and anyone advertising a competition held by ITV

Old people are exactly the same as us, only in worn out bodies.

My granny was about 15 trapped in an 86yo body. She giggled and laughed while we tried to drag her to the disco with us. She was the loveliest person I knew :o( R.I.P.

I don't like being around old people. I don't know why but I subconsciously associate them with dirty and crusty things. I don't like when they touch me either. Maybe it's a phobia?(hahaha)But the only old people I like are the ones in my family

I don't like them any more than I like any other person. A lot of them seem to have very old-fashioned opinions, but that will always be true, and I'm sure that if I am lucky enough to be alive in 60 years people will say the same about me (although I hope that I don't turn into a stereotypical old person).
