Is it hard to touch your thumb to your pinky?

This has been a thing for as long as I can remember. There's no "hold up three fingers" so much as "fold your pinky halfway down and try to pull your thumb in without dislocating something." It's never come up as a problem with any other kind of gesture, but the number three is hard and the Hunger Games salute is totally impossible. It's twice as bad in my dominant (left) hand. I know it's not normal per se, but pick 'yes' if you personally have or have had this trouble.

I have very long fingers and my thumb and pinky overlap each other when I put them together. Although my ring finger does bend down slightly when my pinky bends.

This is normal in many people because the muscles that connect those two fingers are weaker than the others. Some people can't bend them separately at all, like you. Just a quirk of nature.

    • But that's not even the problem. It's my pointer finger that won't stay stright. Well, it's all of them, but mostly that.

I think you may have broken your finger at a young age and it's set wrong.

Something wrong with your hands then.

I can do this except, for the finger next to my pinkie. It won't stay straight. I can get it a straighter but, not in line with the other fingers, if I bend my pinkie and overlap it with my thumb.

I do not have this issue. In fact, it is really easy and I don't see how it would be hard. Stiff joints?
