Is it norm that my dog stares?

your dog stares at you cos you're part of its pack

the licking is a habit they learn from weaning... it is used to seek approval from pack members

He's your friend, don't turn him down :)

im not turning him down, it just freaks me out sometimes, lol

Depends on the rest of the body language, staring could be a show of several behaviors, from aggression to basically saying "you're part of my pack"

The excessive licking however, can be a sign of anxiety among other things, it really all depends on the appearance of the rest of the animals body

When I first got my dog, that's all he would do. He honestly creeped me out. I could be reading a book and look out the corner of my eye and he would be staring at me from across the room. I've gotten used to it, but sometimes his human-like behaviours creep me out. He licks allot too, but I know he means well.

My dog rarely licks ~ as she was obviously severely beaten for doing so by previous owners, but sometimes she forgets if she hasn't seen one of us all day. We all get jealous of the one she's licked ;o)

Staring is normal coz your dog is learning all about you. For instance dogs have to learn that when humans bare their teeth, they are happy and not going to attack ~ unlike another dog!
