Is it normal...to stand in the middle of the street when its dark out?

A few weeks ago on a Sunday, I woke up at six in the morning. We always give my friend a ride to mass so we were going to pick him up. We turned the corner to his house, but, unlike usual, we didn't see him standing outside waiting for us. He then came out from behind a car. Later on when we arrived at he church I asked him why he had come out from behind the car. He looked at me and very seriously goes, "I'm going to tell you but please don't laugh." I said ok. He then proceeded to explain that before we had gotten there he had walked into the middle of the street, stood there and had thrown his arms open in the air and that it had made him feel like Harry Potter, but that when he had seen our car coming he ran to hide behind the car. I asked him why and he said that because if he had done it in the middle of the day he would have looked stupid. is this normal??
