it is normal, you might not find it that way, everyone has different habits. i have this habit and i have it really bad. i get it's not healthy but it's normal.
Yeah I don't think it is its a habit I've had since I was in kindergarten I don't know why I just can't stop I even do it a lot without realizing it
I've done this for as long as I can remember and I've literally NEVER heard of another person doing it. It always starts with a lie bump, but once I pick it off, I just keep going. The picking causes the surrounding taste buds to swell up, which just feels like more lie bumps, and before I know it I've picked almost every taste bud off the tip of my tongue. I don't like pain, I don't like the taste of blood, and I don't care about my tongue being smooth.. idk what it is honestly, but once I get started, it's almost impossible to stop. I actually was diagnosed with OCD, though, so that probably has something to do with it. It explains why I can't stop once I start, if nothing else. It's honestly embarrassing and I wish I didn't do it, but once I get that first lie bump, I can't help but to pick and pick until my tongue bleeds. I've even been known to take a pair of (clean) nail clippers to my tongue. I bet a lot of people do this, it's just that no one talks about it cuz it's such a weird habit. I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually a diagnosable mental disorder that hasn't been recognized yet. I've looked this up before, but I couldn't find anything about it online. Literally not ONE mention of it anywhere, so I was really surprised to come across this link today. Thanks for posting. Now I know I'm not the only weirdo who does this. lol
one day out of no where i decided to bite one of my taste buds, it hurt but i liked the pain (idek it’s weird) and i kept doing it ever since and it’s been a hard habit to break. it’s to the point where my tongue would start to bleed but it has never gotten swollen. it’s basically like biting the inside of your cheek or biting your nails. but the way that i cut down from doing it too much is by wearing my . i just recently got retainers and they help me to not bite my taste buds as much because it’s harder to get a grip on them with the retainer. hope this helps !
I also do this, but I privately use nail clippers. I look at it as just a conscious habit like someone biting their nails. I also like the feeling, maybe it's just a mild form of masochism. I'm not seriously hurting myself or anyone else.
I have had this habit for over 15 years. It drives my wife nuts because she can feel the texture of my tongue. She refuses to let me go down on her while my tongue is recovering from being bitten.
I wasn't even aware that that was possible. I think taste buds are capable of growing back but this doesn't make your habit any less problematic. I really think you should consult a doctor.
When I was younger I was so grossed out by the look of those tiny bumps, I would take my fathers razor and try to shave them off. One day I realised that everyone has them and I stopped.
Are you anxious a lot? Or maybe been through something that causes you to be nervous? This is a nervous disorder. Kind of like biting your nails, chewing the inside of your cheek, "fiddle fingers" etc.
perhaps it's time to consider ways to break the habit.
chewing gum perhaps.
