Is it normal extreme parasite/bug phobia

I feel everyone has some sort of bug or parasite phobia, as it's a huge part of horror and one of the most common phobias. But my boyfriend really takes it to the next level.

He thinks he has beetles or centipedes in his arms and sincerely believes he does. He will hold his arm under a light and swears up and down he can see them moving under his skin. He also smashes his lit cigarettes into the "moving bumps" to try and kill them.

He has a very extensive drug history for only being 22 but has been clean 6 months. Maybe he's having some late detox side effects? Maybe he just has a heightened phobia? I don't know.

the fear of bugs under the skin is very common with stimulant drugs like cocaine, meth etc.
maybe he's having a residual stimulant psychosis or residual mental issues?

That's probably some permanent psychosis as a result of years of abusing hard drugs. He could also very well schizophrenic as well. Schizophrenia tends to initially develope in the early years of adulthood, but that is also the time when people are most likely to use and abuse drugs. There could, and I would venture to say may very well be a correlation between the two, but then again the two things could be unrelated.

I hope he's getting some help, and I hope you would be encouraging him to get help. I think it would be wise of you, however, to keep your own personal safety and sanity in mind. My question to you is why are you with this guy? No offense, but he doesn't sound like relationship material. If you were my daughter I'd want you to leave this guy alone for your own good!
