Is it normal for a 14 year old girl to have sex

So i just heard my sister say she has had sex, she is only 14 years old, I confronted the situation and asked her if it was true, she said yes, I feel disturbed and very mad. I mean I can't believe how the young people are these days, not being in true love, and just having sex. Seems wrong to me, but would like to hear what everyone thinks, should I tell my parents about what I know?

Buy her birth-control, don't tell your parents, help her out as much as you can because she is your sister and you wouldn't want to see her get into any situations such as pregnancy or AIDS, very rare, but hey, who know what could happen, she isn't the only person having sex at 14, STI's could be crawling around everywhere...

  • Many girls are fully sexually mature by the age of 14. I am not saying she has made a smart/good choice, but the fact is that it is quite normal for girls to start having sex that early.

14 YEAR OLDS SHOULD NOT BE HAVING SEX.
    IT'S WRONG.
THEY'RE NOT ADULTS AND THEY MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT HEALTHY SEXUALITY.
A HEALTHY SEXUAL MALE OR FEMALE HAS TO BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AND MUST HAVE A PARTNER THAT LOVES THEM.
PLEASE, IF ANYONE ON THIS SITE IS 14 YEARS OLD, DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID.

Why do you say that? I (21-male) have been having safe (protected, obviously), satisfying sex since I was only 15. Sure, that was pretty early, but I don't understand what risks you speak of. Other than STI-infection, pregnancy (both prevented by safe sex), and psychological damage (I was ready, and knew it), I don't see any drawbacks from this. It is legal for two minors to have sex in the US as far as I know; the age of consent only applies when one or more participant is </=18 years old.

I thought it was illegal for anyone under 16 totally and both parties had to be 16-17 to have sex and had to be doing so willingly. if one is 17 and one is 18 it is illegal though. anyone over 18 is allowed to have sex whenever though.

Totally normal. Legal? Probably not. Acceptable? Depends on the societal context. Advisable? Hardly. But totally normal if history teaches anything.

it's legal for them to have sex. it's not illegal unless it's rape or if the woman is under 18.

Historically girls of 14 are of reproductive age, only in relatively recent human history have arbitrary, morally derived limits been set for consent giving. We can not escape our nature, but with intellect we can temper it so give her condoms and get her on the pill and make sure the guy she is doing it with is not a tosser. If he is taking advantage have him dealt with.

Im from Denmark, average age here is 16, so yes, 14 is very normal, i was 14 too. But it can also be different from country to country, from person to person.

Actually it is more normal that some of us would like to think. I remember back in the 80's, I was doing research on the teen pregnancy and found that the highest rate of child birth was in girls between the ages of 10 and 14. That was in the 80's, it is now 2012. What do you think?

Do you have any idea how young people are having sex? If fourteen year olds having sex is shocking to you, you'll have a heart attack when you find out what else they're up to.

Normal? Depends where you live, but probably.

Acceptable? Quite possibly not, at least to her family, etc.

Good for her? Depends entirely on the girl, but if she's reasonably mature and it's all consensual and safe, it's not that big a deal.

It is definately disturbing, but it's 100% normal. Girls and boys are horney in their teen years, and girls can be biologically ready by then, so by natures standards yes lol By societys standards, nope.

  • I lost my virginity at 15 1/2 years old and I was thinking about how behind I was. Guys telling me that they had lost virginity at only 8 and girls talking about their sex lifes at only 13. So, it's common but, I think they lose their virginity cause everybody else talks about sex, they hear it on tv. They just want to fit in with everybody else so, they do what they can to fit in. Maybe, I'm wrong but, that's what I think.

Sadly even with all the knowing children and teenagers have about sex education and all that is good to learn Your sister at 14 is in the higher per cent of underage sex in today so called modern world: No she she should not be sexually active for her years: just be gentle with her and slowly encourage her to think before she has sex again: of the dangers attached the not so nice things she can pick up etc: be patient with her too don't threaten you will tell on her: she is 14: she's intelligent so building a friendship with her will help her to grow and mature naturally without sex: Make friends with her so ye become friends to each other because you care

I'm not surprised by this, chances are she's talking complete bullshit because she thinks its "cool" to be having sex with people, however putting out when you're 14 years old seems wrong to me 14 is an age where you have the last few years to be a kid, tell your parents.

it seems its common at the moment. i have a friend whose son received pics from girls. they where extremely bad.

but anyway. i had sex at 14 and i have regretted it. i seem to not be able to find the right guy and i think that all guys just want sex. only some guys could i ever see more. i had scares all tho time and my number of partners is high. at least i think so.

i would tell her to not even think about doing it again or you will tell your parents. its what i would do. =)

I'd also like to add, you're her sister, don't tell on her. Not the best idea at all. It'll stress your parents out, it'll get her pissed at you, and this is all something that will mean nothing when you're adults. Seriously, I understand why you'd be upset, but don't betray her trust. It was a lame decision, just be there for her if she needs you, it's up to her what she does, but you could probably convice her to make better decisions in the future

I wouldn't say it was advisable but plenty do it at that age so I would say its probably normal. I lost my virginity at 13 which is a little young but I was in a loving relationship for a year with a 16 year old and it was a lovely experience. However, after splitting with my first love my sexual activities spiralled out of control and I had numerous non loving experiences I would be very happy to forget. I think the ages of both partners is relevant to this question as two 14 year olds may make silly choices but say a 14 year old and a 22 year old... That's taking advantage in my opinion. My advise is try not to direct your anger at her as you may well push her away and then if she gets into a sticky situation later on she may feel reluctant to confide in you.

I'm one of the least sexually uptight people that you will ever meet. No offense, but you sound like an immature child who is made that I, an adult, does not share her views. Perhaps, you have gone so far as to take this stance because you are guilty of the same thing that the girl mentioned in the post does.

Is it normal? Actually, yeah, it is. Maybe that's why my sister has 18 month old daughter at the age of barely 17, is with a different guy from her baby's father now and thinks she might be pregnant again. That's just the first part of her problems. That being said, is it right? Nope. I am almost 21 years old, and when I was 14... I knew what it was, thanks to middle school, but as it shouldn't be, it wasn't looked at as a "socially acceptable" act. You are not an adult when you are 14 year old, therefore your decisions that you make at that age should be that of a child not a full grown adult. Sex is not the act of children, whether you 14 year olds out there think you are children or not. There is a reason why movies and etc. are 18 and up, and why TV (used to be... isn't anymore because this country has no standards) is censored. So on that note, it is normal... but it is not a good thing, at all.

Tell your parents and let them deal with her. It's not your job to do so but it's normal to feel upset. You should tell your parents so she can get on birth control. Like the shot so she won't "forget"

She's clearly sexually ready, and if she told you, maybe she wants some brotherly guidance.
Show her how to please a man, how to deepthroat, and how to swallow. She won't have to learn from some jerk who doesn't care about her.

I agree. Teach her as much as you can. Like if a guy doesn't eat her pussy and make her cum over and over, then he doesn't deserve any pussy. Eat her pussy for her.. She should have sex with someone who loves her and puts HER pleasure above his....like her brother

I answered normal, not that I condone anyone having sex at 14. In my opinion 14 is way to young (emotionally), but I know from my own generation and remembering back to being age 14, that I new numerous people who had sex at 14, even a few at age 12. I had sex at age 15 without much thought and unfortunately very naive and I was led to believe having sex before 16 in general was very normal. Youngsters are going to try and be as grown up as they wish to be and defy what is "acceptable" within society, I just wish kids realized from a young age that there is no pressure to start being sexually active and that waiting can be MORE beneficial psychologically and make for better more enjoyable sex when your ready.

mabey it's nobodys business but the people involved. Anytime somebody has sex with someone everyone feels like they need to voice wether they approve or not. how about a little respect for other peoples privay regardless if you think they are ready or not, it's their private business not yours. Is your sex life that dead that you need to sticky beak into other peoples ?
