Is it normal for a dad to show son how to wash his foreskin?

I remember was a kid I would mostly be placed in the tube to play in bubble bath and later mom or dad would come in and wash my hair and rinse me off. As I got a little older, maybe 5-7 my dad would occasionally have me shower with him. Not all the time tho, just when we needed to get cleaned up quickly, which I think is pretty normal. I remember him showing me how to wash my hair, clean behind my ears, etc. I also remember him teaching me about foreskin hygiene, to always pull my skin back and rinse and wash it every time I bathed or showered. He casually demonstrated this pulling his own foreskin back and rinsing it off and then soaping his whole genital area. He showed to pull it back and use my fingers gentle to wash my under my skin and head. He told me make sure I clean really well because if I didn't it might smell. He washed it, rinsed it and then pulled his forskin back over his head. I remember trying to pull my own skin back but couldn't. He eventually assisted in pulling my foreskin back and he told me to wash myself like he had showed me.I think we did this once a week for about a year, maybe less, until he was confident I could bathe myself. And occasionally, when puberty kicked in, he would ask if was still cleaning myself 'it's an important piece of equipment son, make sure your washing it everyday the way I taught you.' By the way, he apparently did this with all my brothers too.

Guys with foreskin, does this sound normal? I told this to a girlfriend of mine and she freaked but the guy at the table though it was fine. I don't see anything wrong with it, seemed normal to me but I don't know other guys experiences. How did you learn about hygiene and keeping you manhood clean? Is my situation normal?
