Fuck realising I relate to this shows my depression might be worse than I thought
I have terrible depression and once trudged through a week with baby wipes because I just couldnt find the energy to shower without collapsing on the bathroom floor and crying. Keep pushing. Things get better.
Believe me I understand about depression not just based on my own experience.
I've taken days off work found sitters for my kids. I'm gone to my friend's house physically pulled them out of bed, brushed their teeth for them, physically held them up in the shower and gotten them out into the world to do what they need to do.
Here's the truth about depression.
It fundamentally changes the way your brain works. The most common tasks, i.e. your situation, are impossible mountains to climb.
You need help, badly.
A combination of a support system, therapy, and drugs.
A major problem lies in that the correct combination is different for everyone.
Reach Out get help that's easy for me to say.
Unfortunately your brain is your enemy and it's going to be a long road.
Good luck, it won't be easy.
It's quite normal, sadly. I've been there too and I know how tough it is, just remember it's really not your fault to feel what you're going through, and it won't last forever.
I really recommend you seek profesional help, call a therapist( better if you have references), start with antidepressants (I recommend sertralin, really helped me) and go out and take a walk each once in a while(exercise is even better!). In my case it was necessary to ask for professional help, if I hadn't... I probably wouldn't be here now. If you need anyone to talk with, or want advice on the topic, please know you can contact me and I'd be glad to help in anyway I can. Take care, be strong.
I still somehow manage to brush my teeth and bathe, but I don’t care much about how I dress or if my beard is shaved neatly.
When I am depressed, I lost motivation and energy to do stuff even the daily tasks so I can kind of understand how you feel but two weeks of not taking a bath etc sound critical.
I say it’s normal for any person, regardless of their mental state, to maintain their personal hygiene. I don’t think it’s a trait that follows depression, and if it is for you, it doesn’t seem like such a bad thing from my perspective...you’re ok, just keep hanging in there! :)
Unless you are a person who enjoys staphlococous, sepsis or just plain retarded and unhealthy and like it,You will find that after you become infected and incapable of good sound judgment you won't live to regret it.
Depression is a luxury that the poor cannot afford.
When you are young and living at home, sure you can lay around feeling bad, not performing hygiene, etc. Once you get out in the real word, feeling sorry for yourself isn't an option
You don't know much about depression, evidently. Depression is not a choice, it's actually a clinical condition which happens to people, and it has chemically measureable consequences. When it happens to poor people who haven't got means to deal with it they usually end up killing themselves if not given the right aid, in the right moment. You should really get your facts straight before dissing on people without any knowledge on the topic...
