Is it normal for a headchef to act mean and crazy like gordon ramsey?

a bunch of us have worked at the same Italian restaurant for decades. we have a new part time 21 year head chef for the evening shift. The food taste great. But He is rude to the patrons to the point he is not allowed to answer the phone anymore. If we don't go fast enough or if the basting brush falls in the olive oil he almosts knocks people out of his way the whole shift. If all his spices on the spice rack aren't facing the right way he starts breaking things and throwing heavy pointy things at the staff. he also shames the staff in front of the patrons and makes them cry and shake the whole shift.I told him that people our age can't run all over and not have a bathroom break the whole shift. that a restaurant should be a team, a well ordered machine. The patrons don't like hearing him yelling/swearing and coming out on the floor and abusing our bartender who is everyone's favorite. He looked at me like I was stupid and said it is a dictatorship and says this is how all businesses are run now.

maybe the manager will schedule him alone one night and when he asks why be like no one else wants to be abused all night.i think the owner might do something about it esp if patrons are complaining about napoleon.

There's nothing worse than a young person with lots of power.
Sounds like this prima donna won't last too long. It's easier to replace one asshole than everybody else on the staff.
Of course, if you are the only one bitching, perhaps it's your ass that might be on the way out the door.

Gordon Ramsey isn't rude to guests that I am aware of. His whole attitude is geared toward providing guests with an experience that is nothing short of perfect. Anything less is unacceptable to him. If your chef is rude to guests that is completely unacceptable.

I don't think there is anything wrong with shaming the staff in front of guests as long as it is done correctly. If by shaming you mean he calls the staff out for mistakes in front of the guests so that the guest knows a situation was taken seriously and handled I think that is fine. Throwing dangerous objects at employees should be grounds for immediate termination.
