Is it normal for a non-christian to not support the lgbt community?

You see all of these Christians that are against homosexuals, but you never really see any that aren't Christian that are against the LGBT community, either. So my question to you is,

have you ever met a non-Christian or an Atheist that is against gay rights or is homophobic for non-biblical reasons?

I don't mean to be distasteful, I'm just curious. I am not homophobic, I just wanted to ask a question.

Yeah it's normal. It's also normal to believe in God and support gay rights.

Yes, definitely. I live in a very gay city that has a gay area (a bit like a Chinatown) and we have a parade every year. Despite that, you still get people who think it's "disgusting", that their "clothes are too bright", that "they have too many piercings", that "two women shouldn't kiss in public" and that "they're everywhere when this parade is on. You can't move for them". And all that was from just one taxi driver.

Well, there are about 2.2 billion Muslims on the planet. They are not the biggest fans of homosexuality.

There are plenty of non-Christians who are homophobic, but Christians are the only ones who are convinced that their hatred of gays is a virtue.

    Yes.
I have a relative who is non-religious who isn't against homosexuality, but he legitimately does not see gay couples in the same light as straight couples. He doesn't believe that two men should get the same rights as a man and a woman.

Don't debate me or ask me what the logic is behind this, it's not my opinion, I don't know, I've never asked him, why? Because fuck you. That's why.

It's completely normal unfortunately. People discriminate on all kinds of bases, not just religion. Religion sometimes can give justification to discrimination, but I don't believe it promotes it actively in most cases.

I'm atheist and not homophobic per se but I dislike the idea of gay marriage or them adopting or having children.

      Why?

Well first, marriage is a religious construct. Why insist so much on doing something that is so archaic and created by those who are the most opposed to homosexuality? Even atheist heteros shouldn't marry anymore.
Second, children don't choose to be born and most of the time life is shit so not having a mum & dad will only generate more social stigma. I don't think people should just have kids because it makes them happy. That is very selfish.

Well I understand if you think nobody should marry. That makes sense.

As for the adoption thing I disagree. If they are already here they need someone to take care of them no matter what they like to do in their bedroom.

I'll give you the adoption part because they are already born and the supply is huge.

This is really stupid. First off just because you are not Christian does not mean you are Gay or pro gay. We also have gays who come from Christian families.

So no being non Christian does not mean you are going to any gay rights protest. Since in fact a lot of people are creeped out by the idea of gay people. It does not mean that it is for religious reasons.

A lot of Christians even if not believing in the homosexual life style will not bother people for being gay. They simply pray god will take care of them in the afterlife. As they do for most people they care about.

So if you say something is not black it is white but what about green, blue, purple, yellow orange. Did you ever think of those? You are very close minded.

    • I don't believe anything like that is black and white, everything has a gray area. I forgot that not only Christians but Muslims also do not approve of gays, for that ignorance, I'm sorry.

I knew this was a bit of a touchy subject, so forgive me for offending anyone.

Did your parents raise you in a cave? I know a lot of nonreligious people who are like this. So you can not say it is all religious doing.

I'm not a christian, but I don't really go out of my way to support the gays. Im sure there are plenty of gay christians out there.

There are only three main reasons for not supporting gay rights: religious reasons, biased opinion or homophobia. So I don't see how a non-christian should not support or at least accept it.
