Is it normal for a site to "accidentally" get in the browsing history?

I found some questionable things on the computer and the only person who had been using it claims they don't know how it got in the browsing history. First of all it autocompletes when the site name is typed into the search bar. Second, it shows a normal progression of home page, categories, then specific items viewed from the site. It doesn't appear random or accidental at all!

I know that ads and pop ups can register on history but it's obvious when it was just an ad.

What are the chances it was accidental? I mean...come on. Really? But can someone who is tech savvy explain how things get in the browsing history? I know, it gets there by visiting the site....but to be fair....is it really possible it was an accident?

On some browsers if you were typing a keyword not a site address, the address bar automatically turns into a search bar, suggesting sites related to the keyword.

However it sounds in your case, that the browser has used stored keywords and addresses in its auto-field database. Common uses for the auto-field function is postal addresses, it can fill the fields automatically for you if you used/save the address on the browser. The browser shouldn't save things like credit card details you entered on the browser before.

Like dinz said "On some browsers if you were typing a keyword not a site address, the address bar automatically turns into a search bar, suggesting sites related to the keyword." I could type "How to" and it will type in "How to girl fart cookies" not that I actually ever typed anything similar but its just making a guess since its like "Hey I can guess it faster and make life easier for you".

Anything your open automatically goes to you appdata folder or what ever folder is the history stored in (appdata I think). In this case it could be anything, from ads to weird things you have nothing to do with. On some sites new tab full of adds randomly open and it stores in your browsing history.

If you are asking if PORN you didn't watch can get in your browsing history the answer is: Yes it can, but it is a rare case. My friend had it.

Your provider can also see the sites you browse. Yes Right here right now. But it is illegal to give away any information. Nothing to worry about.

But if you watch porn, remeber, people already know about it.

It's definitely possible to accidentally visit "questionable" sites just by surfing around and have them show up in the history. But it's impossible to say whether or not this person is lying about it unless you have someone who really knows what they're doing come and check it out.

Some javascript exploits modify the history so you can't go "back" to the previous site. There's a bit of a catch-22 though as one would need to have visited adult sites for that exploit to have added something there.

The person was probably deliberately looking at something kinky or pornographic and they were too embarrassed to tell you the truth so they lied.

You can find out if the websites were actually visited or not by going to your "history" page. You don't need to muck with the other stuff.

Ctrl + h on most browsers.
