Is it normal for a tattoo artist to do all this?

So I'm currently getting a really big tattoo done and I'd say I have two more sessions left on it. The first session the artist was on the quiet side for the majority of the time, but still very nice and professional. Wouldn't quite say cold, but closed off...until the end of the session, where he asked if I was single. He the started venting to me about how he ended his ltr due to being cheated on. I didn't think much of it, he probably just needed to let some steam off. Tipped him the standard and went on with my life.

Fast forward a few weeks to my second session. The feeling is much different, we had the whole studio to ourselves and were bouncing off each other's energy really well. We had great conversation and laughs the entire time. We talked about our exes again here and there, but it still went well. Keep in mind they aren't together anymore but they're still "cool". He complimented me a lot, but mostly on my personality (and my 'pretty' hair). He also brought me food, took money (like $250) off the total, and paid for my cab home.

What would you make of this? Was he just being nice to retain me as a client? Or was there an ulterior motive?

    He’s obviously into you and if you like him and you’re both single why not go with the flow and see where it leads to.

    I feel like tattoo artist men are players, much like bartenders and such so he was probably hitting on you.
    I would be very uncomfortable if I was there to get a tattoo and the guy would start going on about his private life and hit on me. That would be a negative rating from me.

    Girl, how do you feel about this dude, because he's probably trying to feel up on you. I think this guy likes you, I could be wrong... but I doubt it.

    It sounds to me he likes you. If he said "are you single" like that sounds like a come on.

        It could have been a ploy to find out if you were single. Since you are, he could have already had the story about recently breaking up because of cheating and still being cool with them to show you he's single too and that he views cheating as wrong or that he's been hurt by cheating, possibly setting off a chain reaction of empathy into you

        Especially since it seems like he tested the waters the first session and laid some real foundation in the second. He definitely had time to schedule y'all to be alone

        It seems like it's coming from a good place even if it's all contrived, like he's making sure it's cool to proceed rather than full on manipulate you

      Seconded, he’s looking to score. Make sure he finishes the tattoo before you get involved though (if you want to), there’s an infamous story of a woman whose boyfriend was meant to tattoo a scene from Narnia on her back but he was secretly fuming at her as he found evidence she was cheating so he tattooed a huge poo instead...

        Damn! Thats brutal. But if she's cheating id say she got what she deserved. Thats good advice though best to have the person permanently altering your body like you rather than upset for any reason
