Is it normal for a teenager to be this mature?

For most of my teenage life (That's counting from 10 years old.) I was never interested in the same things as others my age. I wasn't into anything from the pop culture, I was always interested in what I thought was the most important.
Instead of going to the movies I'd study science on the internet. Instead of hanging out with someone I would have serious debates on forums and with my dad.
So is it normal to be so mature at such an age?

Maybe you weren't "more mature", you just matured academically at the same time as other people were maturing socially. In that case you were differently mature, but not more so.

    • That may be, but today I am an introvert. In other words, I don't work well with other people or talk much.

Also, it's not the same as being shy, because a shy person wants to socialize but can't and an introvert is happy just having a tiny list of friends.

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who mistake introversion with maturity. I'm an introvert (I'm quite shy too), but I don't believe I am all that mature and I don't believe being an extrovert is related to being immature. I'm not sure of that is what you're getting at.

        • No, not at all. Introversion is not instant maturity. I've seen plenty of introverts act like little school girls in front of their friends.

This doesn't really mean you are more mature(not implying you aren't though). It just means that you have different interests.

It's normal for sure. My younger brother is always studying and having debates with me and everyone else about any bit of knowledge. I find it quit fun myself. Theres nothing wrong with liking knowledge. Knowing is power! When I was a teen I went out a lot but nowadays I study more just for fun.

I was like that, and so were my friends. However, we grew up in the "ghetto" so our maturity consisted of doing more fun things than boring stuff like science. Things like fooling around with girls in middle school (they were also ghetto lol) and figuring out their psychology. As an adult (18 year old) I was a REAL player, had any girl I wanted. Wrapped around my finger tips, good times. In college, I was surprised to see how I could so easily manipulate the fancy rich girls, they were much slower/dumb than ghetto girls.

Good for you! College is more fun than junior high and high school.
