Is it normal for a woman to have never shaved down there?

I'm a woman in my mid 20s and I have never shaved my pubic hair, or trimmed/waxed or done fuckall to it. But when you look at porn, all the women in there shaved their pussies. And many men say they don't like a woman with natural pubic hair. So I'm starting to think that it's not normal or there's something wrong with me for just my body existing in its natural state. Still I refuse to shave because I think it will make me feel uncomfortable and bare. I like having my natural pubic hair. But I just want to know if it's normal? For a woman to have NEVER shaved her genital area?

Shaving down there is a relatively recent thing (only several decades old); and much of the world does not do it.

Totally normal not to shave down there. Nothing specifically unhygienic about it if you routinely bath or clean up (is the hair on your head unhygienic).

    • Thank you. I was shocked to see every other comment saying it's not normal like I'm some kind of freak. I don't trust myself with my fine motor skills and don't like to take risks with my health/comfort.

I will shave my legs and upper thighs and trim my pubes, but shaving them off seems too high maintenance and pedo-friendly. I say if a man cannot tolerate you having an adult woman's hairy crotch, he doesn't deserve you.

It's normal and looks better. I let mine grow. Based on finding all the random wiry little hairs laying around the kitchen, in the fridge, on my dishes, etc. natural trimming occurs, the hairs simply break off. That's why pubes are always relatively short. There's no need to trim.

Most people who don't shave always say at least to me they don't want to look like a child. Wich is just weird cause when I think of genitals the very last thing on my mind is children.

Personally I shave. It's more comfortable and in my opinion looks better not to mention razor burn is only a problem when you first start out unless you got very sensitive skin or something

I never got the child thing. It feels so odd to think that way.

Sure, children have no pubic hair, but that's not what I would be thinking about when I have a consenting, nude adult in front of me.

That's true. Shaving is a choice, and them not having it is not one.

Oooooh burn. Op is going to need some lotion for that one.

But yea for reals though when my guy is in front of me and he's standing at attention I'm certainly not thinking omg his shaved member looks like a 5 year old thats so gross omg.

Of course they don't, you dildo. You don't get pubic hair until a certain age when you start puberty. There's nothing there to shave.

    • Actually I'm more like a child because children don't shave.

Actually it's more hygenic. I shave but even I know it's more hygenic to leave it.

        No it isn't.

    • I beg to differ actually. It's more hygienic. You do know that pubic hair is there to prevent infection and such from getting into the vagina?

Hair is there to prevent infections, but The chance of an infection really comes down to the human regularly cleaning the area and not being gross about it.

        No, it is not.

Many women shave down there. It can happen, but does that mean it will? No. Plus, you'd get an infection down there regardless, hair or not.

          • "Shaving can lead to ingrowing hair for some people, and as it grows back, it can itch (rubbing you area is not a good look). Shaving also leaves micro abrasions on the surface of the skin, which can take a day or to to heal and could leave you susceptible to any present STI"
            No thanks

Many people shave and don't experience any problems. Either way, unhygienic or not, hairy genitals are gross to look at. Slimy genitals are already disgusting enough, but hair on them looks even worse. Do what you want though.

I know one 26 year-old woman who told me she has trimmed her pubes twice in her life (she likes to over share) some people just like their pubic hair and that’s ok.

from 1 to 10 how much of a bush is it?, if 10 then you should probably trim it a bit?

    • Tbh it just stays the same. It doesn't keep growing. AND I ain't putting any sharp objects near that area. It's not like I'm trying to impress anyone anyway.

I think it’s not normal to have never shaved. Just Bc most people do at some point to experiment, if anything.

But fuck shaving. It’s so uncomfortable.

    • I've always been afraid of razors because of a bad experience with one as a child where I was playing with one in the bath and shaved some skin from my finger off. And because this area is so sensitive, like I have sensory issues (even wearing underwear is irritating), I would not want to put anything sharp near there at all

It's one of the things that has become normalised because of porn - like choking, slapping, anal, external ejaculation, and so on.

The reason why it originally became normal in porn is obvious: it's easier to see what's going on if there's no pubic hair fuzzing up the view, and lots of guys really like to see exactly what's going on.

I'm not suggesting that women never removed their pubes before the invention of the VCR. There's some debate about it, but it seems that many women in ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and India depilated their pubic hair. Often it was a class-distinction thing: upper-class women - and sometimes men - kept themselves hairless to differentiate themselves from the hairy hoi polloi who didn't have the time or energy to faff about with genital hair removal routines. In modern times, some women have always preferred the hairless look or feel; decades before porn became a wide-spread thing, I had a long-term girlfriend who had started shaving her pubic hair shortly after it first appeared simply because she didn't like being hairy "down there".

If you don't want to shave or trim your pubic hair, then don't. There will be men who find this a turn-off because they've been conditioned by porn to only find a hairless vulva sexy. (Hell, I'm sure there are young guys whose knowledge of the female body is limited to what they've seen in porn and so they'll be genuinely shocked to learn that women also have pubic hair.) But there are also men who actually prefer women with substantial bushes.
