I dropped the habit a few years ago without trying. But I found myself doing it the other day. Funny. A family friend sucked her thumb until she died in her 90s. There’s worse habits to have.
Probably not normal and embarrassing if in public, but harmless unless you do it so much it affects the skin on your thumb. You could try drinking water from a pop top bottle instead of sucking your thumb.
Bad relationship with your mother or never seen your mother. Attachment/ comfort-reducing issues like that arise from a poor childhood relations.
Put a bandaid on your thumb.
This will kill the satisfaction you get from it because the bandaid will become a nuisance, and the fabric will hold wetness longer which will be unpleasant.
