Is it normal for chewing gum to make cats crazy?

I have minty chewing gum and my cat was acting perfectly calm but then she smelled it on my breath, jumped on me and started sniffing at my face excitedly, then eventually bit my left breast and ran off to attack the rug. Is that normal?

I agree with the comments about the lethal germs in cat's mouths. However, unless your kitty broke the skin, I wouldn't worry about it so much. Cats are notorious for what seems to us to be irrational behavior, particularly when they're being playful.

As for the mint, I've heard that catnip is a member of the Mint family Labiatae, which is known for its ability to get some cats high. Maybe your kitty was getting a bit of a rush from your breath. I'd suggest getting him/her a catnip toy or fresh catnip leaves in the future and see what happens.

A cat bit me! I recommend not trusting cats, even if you know them, even if they sprawl at your feet in the pet-me-please-pet-me posture. They are devious beasts and will lure you into believing that they are not.....take care

    Perfectly normal.
I only buy the eucalyptus/ menthol chewing gum and my cat goes nuts! Licks my face, rubs its face and whole head to my lips, pushes its nose against my face really hard… :))) and when I try to keep him away it grabs my wrist with both paws to keep it out of his way and continues to try licking my face. It’s desperately trying to get to the chewing gum scent. Completely bananas for a minute. It then falls asleep purring on my chest, often resting it’s cheek against mine.
It’s the menthol. Too similar to catnip, it makes them euphoric for a minute and leaves them happy and sleeping like a baby.

Cats love different smells, for instance my can always came up to me to see what I was chewing. The minty smell probably made the cat think u had a treat and she/he bit you because u wouldn't share. My kitty did that to me too lol.

not really your cat might either have gotten freaked out by the smell because it's unfamiliar or it might be allergic to it or she just doesn't like it too much.

If necessary, call your doctor for the bite

Wash the wound gently with soap and water.
Apply pressure with a clean towel to the injured part to stop the bleeding.
Apply a sterile bandage to the your breast.
Keep the injury elevated above the level of the heart to slow swelling and prevent infection.
Report the incident to the proper authority in your community for example, animal control office or police)
Apply antibiotic ointment to the area 2 times every day until it heals.

Your breast is an important place for your baby later...so take care

You know it's a serious medical problem when a cat bites you. I called and spoke to a nurse and she was all get over to urgent care within 4 hours. I was repeatedly told that a cat bite is "like an injection" and that the germs in the cat's mouth are truly loathsome. A dog's bite isn't at all as bad. And, I note, a dog isn't at all as devious.
