Is it normal for doctor to push you to get a pap smear if

You're a virgin and have an illness that makes you bedbound so you can't possibly get HPV (which is what the pap smear looks for) because you never leave the house?

How can someone who sits at home all day get HPV? Why would they need to test for it and waste their money on the test when they can't get HPV? HPV is usually from sexual contact or sitting in a gym.. you don't get HPV from sitting on your own couch or bed that no one ever touched.

Is it normal even though my doctor knows this she pushes me into it?

According to the World Health Organisation, HPV causes 70% of cervical cancers and pre-cancerous cervical lesions. So obviously around three in every ten such cases are due to things like genetic predisposition, unknown environmental triggers or just random mutation.

I don't find it surprising that you believe the test isn't necessary in your case. I think it's great that the link between cervical cancer and HP was discovered and how it's now possible to get a vaccine which protects against many strains of the virus, but there is a subtext that can lead people to believe that the only cause of cervical cancer is having sex with someone who's infected with HPV. This simply is not true.

I know the test is uncomfortable and many women find it embarrassing, but your doctor is behaving in an ethical and responsible way when she urges you to have the smear test.

The other thought that occurs to me is that it is possible your doctor is urging you to have the test because she's aware that there's a suspected or proven statistical link between whatever health issues you have and cervical cancer.

Not all cervical cancers are caused by HPV.

You can get HPV without having sex. Not the most common thing, but; yes you can.

Yeah but I think there’s about a hundred strains of it, with only one or so being dangerous to women.

You probably do have one, or more, like most people but it’s a harmless one and isn’t tested for.

      I think that’s correct, maybe.

A Pap smear does much more than just test for HPV. If you don’t want it, don’t get it.
