Is it normal for dogs to bark at nothing

What is nothing to you can be something to them. Their hearing is more acute than our's. We might not see or hear anything and think they are barking at nothing. Next time they seem to be barking at nothing, look in the direction they are because they heard something you didn't. I agree with blop, sometimes they'll bark just to get your attention (playtime or pet me).

Usually when dogs bark at nothing it's either they see something you can't or they are bored and are trying to get your attention.
