Is it normal for dogs to fear human blood?

I have a one year old Maltese who absolutely flipped out today at the sight or smell of human blood. I was sitting next to her on the sofa when I had a hang nail that started bleeding. She's adorable and nosey so when I showed her my finger, she jumped off my lap and bolted to the other end of the sofa (she would have jumped off the sofa but she's too small and doesn't jump up/down on her own) She started to whine and carry on something fierce as if she was crying. I felt terrible and tried to let her know that I was fine but she wasn't having it. I could't help but laugh a little too because she was so vocal about it. I've owned 3 other dogs and I've never noticed this behavior. She can be skittish about the oddest things (like when I show her the remote control or my cell phone) so I'm not sure if this is just one of her many phobias or if the fear of human blood is typical in many dogs. Perhaps it's not so much as fear but rather she knows that I'm injured. However, if that's the case, why is she running away? I googled the topic but only one brief article came up and it didn't really answer my question. Curious to know if anyone knows the answer or have any insight. Thanks!

I have heard it said dogs are deathly afraid of vampires, but until there is blood around they can't identify them. That is why real vampires never have dogs as pets.
Did something bite you on the neck recently? Not been feeling quite like yourself of late? hum
