Is it normal for girls to shave their thighs?
I’m wondering if any other girls shave their thighs. My mom tells me I shouldn’t because they’ll just grow back darker. And my hair color is dark so my thigh hair is dark, too.

The idea that shaving hair makes it grow back darker is a myth with no basis in fact.
If you know even a little about basic biology and you think about it, you'll see how nonsensical this idea is. Hair is just a filament of inert protein, and the follicle which produces the hair has no way of sensing what happens to it once it's been produced. There's no way that lopping off a bit of hair above the root can have any effect on what sort of hair reappears above skin level when the hair regrows. If you believe shaving can affect the follicle, then you'd have to also believe that every time you get any sort of haircut, that also affects the sort of hair the follicle produces, which is clearly nonsense.
If it was true that hair grows back darker after shaving, don't you think that you'd regularly see guys who are going grey shaving their heads to restore their original hair colour?
The stubble which appears when a shaved area regrows will feel coarser, but that's simply because the hairs are shorter and so less flexible, and because the end of the hair is blunt rather than tapered.
One method of hair removal that does affect how it grows back is waxing or plucking. Repeatedly removing hair including the root eventually damages the follicle so much that it stops producing hair. Using that method also means that the hair that does regrow has a tapered end and so doesn't feel as rough as the stubble you get after shaving.
Anecdotally that idea is true for me tho. Epecially around shaving my anus. Maybe the hair serves a purpose so your body regrows it?
Human body hair is an interesting thing, since it's not entirely clear what purpose it serves. For most mammals with body hair the function is obvious: it's thermal insulation and protects the skin from the environment. Apart from head hair, human body hair is useless on that score. It's possible that pubic and under-arm hair has served some function in our recent evolutionary past as a way of absorbing and dispersing pheromones, thus making those with it more likely to reproduce.
I think it's one of those things we've retained from our evolutionary ancestors because it has little cost in energy terms and few drawbacks, so having it doesn't reduce the chance of reproduction.
I'm not about to deny your perception about the hair around your anus, but the fact remains that hair follicles have no way of detecting when a hair has been cut at or above the surface of the skin, so there's no way they can respond to this.
I’ve noticed this on my stomach, went from a snail trial to a snail super-highway after I started shaving it.
Upvote on the biology aspect. No one ever talks about the biology of the situation.
That's a myth. Anyways I don't, only a little bit right above the knee because my hair is darker there but not any further up because then it gets so light. I am dark blonde so.
If it’s already dark what have you got to lose by shaving it? Your thighs your decision.
Well depends what is normal to eachs own. I like to shave my entire leg. I've seen many girls when younger whom didn't shave their thighs. As a woman I haven't been in any change rooms to notice womans thigh hair or not.
Yeah, it's totally normal, but be careful because chaffing can often be way worse right after you have shaved. It can be very uncomfortable and red.
A funny post.
I have always found it amusing how men are unattracted to hairy women. Yet, women who don't shave can be just as hirsute (origin 1621 from the Latin hirsutus) as they are or are not.
The old joke why do Italian men grow mostaches?
Answer: to look more like their mothers.
(No offence intended)
If you have fine hair how closely will others be looking? Listen to your mom.
It would definitely make the thighs more appealing. And this is coming from a guy who has a strong preference for a bushy cooch, and to a lesser degree armpits. But a hairy cunt is one thing, hairy legs a whole other. I couldn't tell you why, but that's just how it is.
I only shave that area for special occasions, like a wedding, funeral, a special date night, etc. If I do this more often it would get costly. This is due to my thighs being so thick; which makes them harder to shave without razor burn.
