Is it normal for me to always want to write stories that make people cry?

I'm an active blogger, and often I'm simply writing about anything that strikes my fancy at the time. However, I shared a short story, one which the antagonist and protagonist both meet an untimely end. A classic tearjerker. Yet, here I am, wanting to write something else incredibly depressing.

The more emotional the deeper the meaning can be for most. Makes us think more about life and not just what we want to make us happy

I think it's perfectly normal. Wanting to write about the darker side of life is something most see as a sign of depression, but I think it's natural. I want to make video games in the future with some depressing moments, killing off characters, what not. If you start feeling sad, write something else, but for now? You're perfectly fine.

Yes, it's normal. Most authors want to be able to evoke emotions, whether through laughter or tears.

It's important for artists to capture the entire spectrum of human emotion, that's what makes writing as a genre have so much depth and variety. Write whatever emotions you can do best, don't force yourself to write anything different, especially based on someone else's criticism. If you are to write anything different, you will when your mind is ready.
