Is it normal for mothers to tell their daughters they are lonely?

My mom is a single mother and has been all of my life. She calls or texts me almost every day to tell me how lonely, depressed, and unhappy she is. Is this normal for a mother to do to her daughter? I feel like I take the brunt of all of her emotions and it seems really unhealthy to me. Do moms normally tell their kids how unhappy they are?

Perhaps she has no one else to talk to. Contacting you almost every day, to me, sounds like loneliness. Have you recently moved out? If so she may be suffering from empty nest syndrome.

Why don't you encourage her to widen her social circle, get her to get out & about a little more.

Do you live with her? Perhaps she misses you?

  • She shouldn't do this, but we can't really blame our parents for failing sometimes. After all, we are alive thanks to them. If they planned everything carefully to avoid these situations, we mighy have not existed at all. Mine does this too, so I would just try to find a solution now.
