Many dating websites require paid memberships and a 6 month or 1 year membership tends to be a lot cheaper than monthly.

So, I was often a paid member of dating websites for months after I met someone.

While I did clear my email or messages periodically, I was not actively looking if I was in a potentially long term relationship (and I let the Woman involved know that I had such memberships and would clear my messages periodically - and even let them watch me if they wanted to).

A reality: I was on dating websites for over 20 years before I met the lady who became my wife on one.

Talk to him about it - and ask why and will he let you see the messages he is sending.

If he's actively looking.... time to dump him.

If he's just maintaining his account and sending messages that "thanks for the interest, however I'm currently unavailable" (or similar)... give him a chance.
