Is it normal for my cat to play with my dad's big fish tank?

Ever since I got her neutered she always stares at my dad's fish tank and goes scratching on the big fish tank ( FYI it is a breakproof fish tank ).

Is it normal?

She'll probably eventually figure out that she can't get at the fish. But then I've shared a house with several cats over the years, and some of them were pretty damn dim.

My all-time favourite cat did one of the funniest things I've ever seen a cat do when he was a half-grown kitten. Usually, he sat on someone's lap in the evening when we were watching TV and paid no attention all to what was happening on the screen. But one night, we were watching some sort of nature program that featured groundhogs or marmots or meerkats or something like that, and something about their motion or the sounds they were making caused him to start staring at the TV very intently. The critter suddenly lolloped across the screen and out of view, and the cat leapt about halfway across the living room and charged around to the side of the TV trying to find the animal.

Of course, after having a good look around, he casually wandered back to the sofa like he was letting us know he hadn't _really_ expected to find anything back there. I don't remember him ever paying any attention to the TV after that disappointment.

My beloved cat from long ago, loved nature shows on TV. Whenever, the show focused on social cats (like lions), she could read their body language. Basically, she didn't like them and crouched with her shoulders high in response to their cold heartless demeanor. But after the show, she would quietly slink around the house as if she was fantasizing about hunting on the plains of Africa. A kitty has to earn her stripes, I suppose.

    Normal. Cats love fishtanks.

A vet once recommended I get a fishtank as entertainment for my cat, when I had to make an elderly life-long outdoor cat move inside, in order to give him meds and keep him comfortable. It worked pretty well. The cat used to sit in front of the fishtank as if he was watching a compelling soap opera. Sometimes he'd paw at the fish. Seemed happy enough.

Your cat sees lunch, then a snack, then a late dinner or breakfast. Cats and fish can only survive if one of them is already dead and processed as a meal. Or just within the cats reach.
