You always hear that a dog is a man's best friend. My dog follows me around always and loves me to death. I have never found anyone that wants to be around me every minute and is so forgiving. My wife is jealous. She is my best friend really but the dog is pretty great too.
Dogs are nobody's "best friend," they do what they need to do to get fed and cared for. I read somewhere else on this site where someone said if you want to test the love of a dog, have a neighbor start feeding it steak instead of the dog food you're feeding it and see how fast it becomes the neighbor's "best friend."

When i went to college I moved 7 hours away, and i adopted an Aussie, and she's the best thing that's ever happened to me.
I can't imagine life without her, shes been through college with me and I love her to death. She literally feels like my kid.
yeah my doggie is my best friend, she has been my rock for nearly 8 years and i dont know what i would do if she wasnt there for me. she knows when i am upset or angry and she always makes me feel better.... and dogs are the best listeners!

My neighbors dog is my best friend! I just love him to death and I don't have time for a pet but when he comes to see me every morning he just brightens my day. The neighbors don't even acknowledge him. We need more affectionate dog owners like you.:)
Just because you're two completely different species, doesn't mean you can't be realistic best friends.. Think about it. If an alien came to earth from outerspace and they were friendly, couldn't they also be a friend? Right.
