Is it normal for my knuckles to hurt from not cracking them?

I have an awful habit of cracking my knuckles that I developed years ago and now do without thinking about it. However if I consciously try to not crack them when it feels they need to be cracked my hands will feel uncomfortable and sometimes hurt, is this a normal thing if you crack your knuckles a lot?

I heard the cracking sound is actually the sound of released pressure between the joints.

Crack away. It is just an old wives tale that it is harmful.

I crack my knuckles , it was originally me trying to do something other people could do and then it just became a habit. And my knuckles do really ache sometimes if I haven't cracked them , my personal theory is that your body develops a need for the release of pressure between your joints (which is what can cause arthritis) like people who cut. Your body releases energy which relaxes the mind and so it can become 'addictive' in a sense

There is no harm in cracking your knuckles,
although, I have heard that it might make gripping things a bit more difficult when you get older, but I dunno if that's true or not.

In some cases, but not always.
