Is it normal for my mom to be extremely nosy about what i order?

I'm a person who likes collecting band t-shirts and I keep a huge collection of them hidden in my room.

My mom won't stop asking me what t-shirt I ordered and she keeps on asking if she can see what I got but I said no.

I get that she's my mom but she keeps asking over and over again and it kinda got on my nerves.

    Not enough details!

Comments and questions come to mind,
    How old are you?
Why you feel a need to hide them?
How do you pay for them, or where do you get the money to buy them?
Why would you be embarrassed by a bands Tshirt? We all have different taste in music and I'm sure your mom knows that.

Hiding anything in your room from your parents unless illegal seems a little extreme.
Depending on your age, the whole world has been teaching and telling parents to be more aware of what their children are into and doing in their room. Buying stuff online and hiding it in your room should raise some suspicions.

If you are old enough and using your own money, then grow up, move out, and do as you wish from you own place.

Why don’t you want her to see them? It does seem weird to keep them hidden. It seems like she’s just making normal conversation like “oh, what clothes did you order?” And you’re being all shifty about it

    • I hide them mostly because of the feeling of being embarrassed, I'm overly paranoid of my mom embarrassing me.

Ah-ha! How does she embarrass you? Have you ever confronted her, or stood up for yourself?

To me, it sounds like your mom is trying to show interest in something that you clearly enjoy. What's the harm in sharing it with her?

Why do you feel you need to hide this? Seems like a very normal interest to me.

I did used to get really annoyed when my parents would ask me about all of the details of my life when I was younger though, so I guess it's a youth thing. Any time I had plans to go anywhere, I had to answer to where I was going, how long I planned to be there and when I was coming home, why I was going, etc. and although it was never anything I needed to hide from them, I guess that's the part of adolescence in which you want your freedom and to be treated like an adult. I now understand why my parents asked those questions, and it is because they genuinely cared and didn't want to worry about me. Meanwhile, I had several friends whose parents couldn't have cared less what they did and allowed them to do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted, but they also didn't care nearly as much about their kids' wellbeing as my parents did and still do with mine.

I know your situation is different because there are no safety issues involved, but I agree with the others that it just sounds like she's showing interest in something you like and just trying to have a conversation. It's a good thing that she has interest in your life, as some parents completely ignore their kids and/or just want them out of their hair/act annoyed by their presence.

What kind of things are you afraid she'll embarrass you with? Do you have shirts of wild groups she wouldn't approve of, like ICP or something like that?
