Is it normal for social media sites to make you less intelligent?

I'm constantly distracted by them which is causing my attention span in real life to deteriorate, I'm constantly exposed to bad grammar and spelling and I feel it is affecting me. All the faceless text conversations online are destroying my social skills in real life. All the cliche's online are uninspiring to the point where I feel bored with the human race. All this seems to have a negative, numbing effect on my brain.

No, Not less intelligent but they can definitely have negative effects on the way you think.

Try to limit it to keeping in contact with close friends and family.

Maybe your just over thinking things a little. Besides, your the one who decides the way you think. You can participate in social media without letting it fuck you over.

If you're going to correct someone, the least you could do is actually respond to their comment as well.

        • Yeah I suppose you're right. i never thought much about online etiquette but then again if you look at the title of this post perhaps I have an excuse. Nevertheless, thank you and apologies to bemah.

The social media sites are not making you less intelligent. It's your participation in them that is causing the deterioration. It's like saying McDonald's is making me fat, well it's not going to have an effect on you if you don't eat it.

    • Yeah but that is essentially the question I'm asking. By participating in them, are they making me less intelligent? And you have confirmed this by saying my participation is causing the deterioration.
      Thank you for your affirmation.

      • Maybe a little as it encourages group mentality. And group mentality discourages independant thought and ideals, halts the questioning that leads us towards truthful answers.

That's how it fucks people up, by making them into drones, by enforcing the outdated notion that the group is all, that the "human condition" requires requires validation from others.

And the grammar and spelling thing is true as can be. Before all the texting, facebook and tweeting people had time to read things that weren't all full of "I luv u omg rofl" shit.

Why'd you ask me the question again if you say I've already answered it only to tell me I have already answered it?

        • Haha see they are making me less intelligent lol I'm a social retard now

        • I should've put it in quotation marks that would of made it clearer my apologies

          Comment Hidden ( show )
        • I didn't ask it again I used the question mark to illustrate where the question was in my last statement and then how you had answered that very question. I think you've read it wrong. Simple misunderstanding.

I didn't read it wrong. There are no quotations and there is clearly a question in the post I replied to. Wtf...

    Humans are not a 'race'.

You feel bored with the human people?

Which tribe of humans makes you feel bored?

Please be careful with the phrase, 'human tribe', as this refers to the Hominini, which currently includes other extinct or absorbed human species. In the near future, this phrase (or a modification of the tribal term, in modern clades) might also include the Panini (Bonobos and Chimpanzees).

  • Social media sites are only as good as the users who contribute, considering the expression for most, the creators might as well redefine the purpose and utility of Twitter and Facebook.

Express your uneducated, selfish, egotistical, attention seeking selves in one click of a status

    All for free!

    Go!
