My best friends mother has mental issues. She has severe depression and is schizophrenic. She is also a packrat. however she hasn't showered since Christmas and even at that it was a sponge bath Cause she believes neighbors can use like night vision and watch her shower. What can we do to get her to shower?
Yeah, schizophrenia is a bitch.
It doesn't help them in the long run to give in to their delusions... but short-term hygiene can be sometimes more important to health than reality.
You might be able convince her than walling the bathroom wall between the neighbours in tinfoil,(or some-such) will let her shower in peace. Whatever works for her.

You told that she is schizophrenic. Behind paranoid is one of symptoms and believe me it's way more painful than it looks something we can't imagine so an important advice - never force her to shower if she don't want to. Discuss this with her psychiatrist. You will get a better solution there. I wish she gets better soon.
