Is it normal for two adults to have a secret language?

my long term girlfriend and i have a secret language that only we understand. Its a kind of mixture of english, german, spanish, french... I could go on but ill leave it at that for now. It started out as single words about 6 years ago and now we can have entire conversations in it. In fact, when were alone we speak almost entirely in our made up langauge. Its even got to the point where we are accidently talking to our friends like it. The fact we put on funny accents
whilst we talk only makes it more embarassing if someone over-hears us or if i blurt it out infront
of friends.

So heres a little of the language: "I cannot do that" would be "ino tanny eben".
Is this normal and does anyone else do it?

There is psychology related to this. I read an article once that said people (couples) that have their own kind of language and made up words etc are connected on a really high/deep level. Someone even went so far to claim that these people were ultimately true "soulmates" - I don't know how much I believe that theory, but what you have is cute

I think you should buy a ring and ask her in your secret language to marry you. What you two have is truly special. Secret languages usually only develop to the level yours has between twins with some kind of trauma in their past to make them trust only one another. My soulmate (also my wife) and I have a few secret words because we felt the word love could not accurately describe what we felt for one another. Example: luedali, which is really just an acronym for, living unbelievable emotional devotion and loving it. What you two have is very special. You also should not be embarrassed of your language in public. Most people never even learn a second language let alone make up their own. Be proud of what you have. I think it is beautiful. Seriously marry her I'm pretty sure you have found your soulmate!!! Teach the baby's too so your whole family can speak it. Just remember to teach them English too or school will be really hard for them LOL. But no I would have to say it is not normal, but that's why it is so special. I'm truely touched by your story and wish the best for the both of you!!

I'm not creative enough to invent a new language but I loved it when I had an Indian GF to be able to talk in her language with her and others (non-Indians) not being able to understand. I'm white myself. it provides a sense of connection.

Haha, I think it's normal for two people who are close to develop a sort of unique form of communication, whatever that may be, between themselves. That's awesome.

Any relationship of mine has usually involved some kind of secret code. I don't feel connected without it. It's like a framework or a foundation. It's sad that these little languages have died. Good luck on your relationship, though. It sounds like you have a good thing there.
