Is it normal generation (old vs. new)

This place seems like one big family/generation. There are people that have been on here for years. Some for months and others are fairly new. Its kinda like the real world too because the users that have been on here longer seem depressed about the new ones coming. As a matter of fact do you old users even like any of the newbies?

You guys should give us a chance some of us aren't that bad and besides you need to pass the torch!

I'm a newbie and the oldies are alright... 9
I fucking despise the new shits that are using this site 3

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I'm not an old user (I think) but I'm far from a new user. I joined about two years ago or slightly more.
I don't dislike it when new people join. It gets tiresome when new people come on just to troll or irritate people. I don't find what they do irritating, I find that they signed up just to be a moron irritating.

  • When I first started commenting, I never considered myself a newbie - I was just contributing my thoughts on the subject, just like everyone else seemed to be. I like the variety in opinions (as long as they're not perpetuating hate) and the sharing of stories.

Mando (under a different name) and Randomjelly were around when I joined and still are.
I like the site. I come here when I have time, but I've been exceptionally busy lately, so I haven't been around as much. All of my projects are suffering right now.

I don't care if you're "new" or "old", if you generally try to give people insightful comments and don't try to pass off your personal opinions as fact, then I think you're pretty cool.
But, if you're the kind of poster that likes to leave immature trollish comments, then I wish I could send you into internet oblivion - but I can't do that, so I ignore you instead.

I think most of the people on here are cool. New or old, it doesn't matter though. Everyone still has their opinions and views on the topics at hand.

I've been here for a little over 2 months but I feel like I settled right into the flow of things.

I've been here a few months now. I notice that there are very few "oldies" around anymore, there are very few frequent conmenters with numbers lower than 60000. I certainly don't feel discriminated against because I'm in the 80000s, but I think that a lot of new users and old users are a bit pointless or uninsightful (no names mentioned). There are only about 3 or 4 people here who's opinions I always respect, some of them are new, others old. There are other commenters who are funny, and I like them too.

I suspect that most people who sign up only do so to ask a question or comment on one post that they feel strongly on. The large majority never even come back.

I have about a year here, I think a little more. I don't know what you or other people would consider old in this site, but I can tell you:

Sites like these are about the both new and old people.

The new people that submit stories or polls, who keep amusing us with their anecdotes or questions, who make this site a little bit more interesting.

The old members that enlighten us with their knowledge and their capacity of solving almost any problem.

People need to get used of the idea of new people being here. That's how we all started.

I'm in between old and new. My first reply (as dappled) was a year ago and pretty much everyone who replied was a fifty thousand (none of them are still here). My second reply sits right next to one of randomjelly's (she's a forty thousand), and my third reply was to a story alv1592 replied to (another forty thousand) and ItDuz (a thirty thousand). They're both still here so I feel like a bit of an inbetweener. It makes me a newbie to them both, and to randomjelly too.

All three of them accepted me, as did many of the other users at the time. It's hard being a new person on a site and trying to get yourself heard. Sometimes people think being offensive is the best way to get noticed. Maybe it is. You certainly get noticed, but perhaps not for the right reasons. As for me, there are newbies I like who get noticed for the right reasons. I'm not going to be so vulgar as to list their names but, as a rule of thumb, if I've replied to someone and I've been friendly, then I like them. Interestingly, a lot of them have already replied to this post. It's a good sign. These are the people I want to be on IIN with. It's not a newbie versus oldie thing. It's a genuine person versus cretin thing. And I like the genuine people.

Weird! We replied to the same question only a few seconds apart. I kind of like that I was thinking about the same thing as you at the same time, though.

New and old are good and needed. I was here last year with a number just under 50000. New name, slightly new me. A few of the people are still here, most have moved on. Such is life, its all good

It isn't really a social site. You don't send friend request. You answer their question, vice versia, i dont cant tellnthe difference. I use it on my phone.

I'm with you, I can't tell the difference either. Some newbies do come on shouting their mouths off, swearing etc which wears a bit thin very quickly!! I prefer someone who thinks before they type.

When I first came to the site, I felt like I was the only one who ever gave little anecdotes to explain why I had certain beliefs. Now, I'm delighted to find that most people have opened up a little and share their stories.
