Is it normal have social anxiety around distant family members?

I get nervous / anxious when talking to family members who I don't see often (cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.) because I feel they're judging me, and this makes me self-conscious. But this doesn't happen when I'm around my parents, brother, friends, or strangers, only other members of my family.

Sounds fine to me, stay away from them, you know they're always plotting and judging you.

Normal. Because you are afraid of something being wrong, and you might be blamed, humiliated, or doomed.

I think your anxiety is very understandable, and to be quite honest I don't much look forward to family get togethers around Thanksgiving and Christmas. New Years is better because of all the booze that's flowing, but honestly Thanksgiving feels like the worst, but I do so love Turkey. My mom makes the best Turkey!

It's normal. Me and my siblings had this problem for a while. I have this problem especially with cousins. It's fine, you're fine. :)

  • Trust its normal. My family is a lot like yours but it's my sibblings I had to cut off. They hate me and talk behind my back.My sister just sent me a ""happy Easter message. But she just wants to get back in my business so I never reply back to her.She no longer is part of my life so she has nothing to bash me about.Sometimes family can be your biggest enemy as I found out!

Since I've never had any extended family members, I have no idea of how you feel. Not coming from a large family, I have always desired to be a part of a large family. The family get-togethers just seem so much fun.
