Is it normal having a conversation with an animal?

ok so i got this new puppy a few months ago and me and him are really close...but for some reason i can talk with my dog...its like i say something then i hear a response from him but i hear it as a whisper and ive had full conversations with him...and for the last week or so my dogg has been in every single dream ive had...does anyone else have a connection like this?

I talk to my dog sometimes(his picture on my profile), long conversations too.
After a couple of minutes I remember he is a dog, and that he probably won't know what I'm saying.

After petting him, giving him a hug, asking him: "who is a good boy", saying goodbye, saying i love you and waiting for an "I love you too"... I remember he is deaf.

Sorry i couldnt reply to your post on my question so im writing here (computers fucked). Im sorry if my post offended you, I don't think you took it in quite the way it was meant. I just want to see things from that perspective, I know about mental problems and i was anorexic so please dont think im being disrespectful to anyone, my mum is an out patient and a mental hospital so im not someone who doesnt understand. Im really sorry if ive offended you.

I think it is normal and I believe, despite what may be commonly known, that people can sometimes do this. My mother swears up and down she could "hear the thoughts" of her beloved Miniature Schnauzer when she was thirsty, hungry or even one time really close to death from an infection.

I have seen people talk to their pets for years. That is not uncommon for pet owners who truly love their pets to do. And I am not sure if it is entirely the tone of voice, if it is the demeanor of the person speaking, or if they can somewhat understand some of it, but sometimes I have seen dogs watch tentatively like they understand at least a portion of what is being said.

I know that two dogs my mother have now know what the following words/phrases mean, "Out." "Off." "Chicken-breast." "Pupperoni." (Both of which are treats and send them into a frenzy!) "Go for a walk." "No Barking." "No Biting." "Go bye-bye." "Vet." "Dinner-time." "bath."
    And they react accordingly.

thats how my rottweiler/German Sheppard mix is. also every time I turn on the hose, he cowers under the table, knows several tricks, and will growl when I mention the name "Rex",a friends dog that always annoyed him.

  • Why are all these comments getting voted down? There's nothing nasty in them and some of them seem okay to me...

Anyways, if I tell my cat off, she always does a particular meow, a really whiney one, like she's protesting against being told off. I've noticed when she's happy, her meows are much higher and squeakier too.

      • XD I'm sure animals know when they are in trouble somehow although if my cat is in trouble, she protests but then becomes all loving, curling near me as if to get back in my favour XD

  • My favorite cat has a meow that sounds like he's saying "No." He might actually be using it in the right context too because he only uses this particular meow in situations where I've commanded him to do something and he won't do it.

Anyway, the last time I was on vacation, my mother-in-law took care of him for me. She has never been much of a cat-person, but she's an animal-lover, so she didn't mind. She was shocked when she told my cat to get off the couch (she didn't know if he was aloud) and he gave her a famous "No." She couldn't believe how realistic that "no" was.

Does anyone remember that famous grey parrot that could talk? It died a few years ago. If a bird can manage a vocabulary that big, then why can't one of our cat's or dogs - which are smarter than birds. Cat's and dogs don't have the ability to speak human words like parrots can, but that doesn't mean they don't understand a large vocab of our words.

I had a cat as a kid that did this. She would meow "Out" and "In" depending on which side of the door she was.

I love it when my cat follows me to dreamland. He always helps me do whatever it is I'm doing.

I sometimes dream about my favourite dog that died 14 years ago :o( but my current dog knows the exact time for her dinner and leads us to the fridge, jumps up and down saying "Ham, ham". Extremely funny!

you got me thinking ... the only time my dog has entered my dreams (nightmares,) she's either been seriously injured or is about to die. I wonder why that is?

You know, pegans believe in familiars, )an animal guardian) and their pets are usually their familaes, and u connect to ur animal in a way u understand each other, and familiars also show up in ur dreams , maybe it's ur familiar (:

my cat and i sort of have conversations, but with our faces. like when somebody does something stupid we both look at eachother like "was that for real?" and other things like that. you seem to have a VERY strong bond with your dog
