Is it normal he didn't pass the swim test?
Recently, a TDSB student drowned while on a canoeing excursion.
The news media headlines had remonstrated that the student 'didn't pass the swim test', which I think is rather obvious.
Obviously, if the student had have passed the swim test, he would have swum to shore, and he probably would still be alive today.
Now, this got me to thinking...
Maybe we should take all the TDSB students out to the middle of Lake Ontario, and those that are able to swim to shore pass the swim test, those that don't...well, fail.
Now, I know what some of you people might be thinking...but I don't agree. There are some people who have successfully swum across the full width of Lake Ontario, including a 14 year old, recently.
The students in the swim test, would only be required to swim half that distance, in order to pass.
Should all TDSB students be required to pass the swim test (half the distance of the width of Lake Ontario)?
