Um, this sounds like hypochondria as I can honestly say there's no possible way to get dizzy or light-headed from tampon insertion.

Like perfectxsilence said, this sounds like hypochondria, or even just a straight-up panic attack. That, or perhaps you're not inserting them correctly?

As for how normal it is, it probably isn't, but I'm exactly the same. No need to worry, though - pads are always an option!

If you're experiencing lightheadedness and other such things it may just be that you're using a tampon that is too big for you. Try small ones that come with applicators.

When you get better at it, let your boyfriend insert them for you. He will enjoy giving you personal attention.

You're probably just anxious. Relax and follow the instructions in the pack

Don't use tampons. Use a moon cup. These cups are far more safe and hygienic than tampons. As Avant-Garde said, they can give you TSS.

I've never used one nor have ever watched a woman use one, but I believe the string is supposed to hang out.

How long did you leave it in there? If you leave it in for too long, you'll get toxic shock syndrome. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxic_shock_syndrome
