Christmas is centered in the birth of Christ, but I don't see anything wrong with celebrating the commercial aspect, it brings families together.
Jesus Christ, if he existed, was supposedly born in August. Christmas only came to be celebrated because it was on the same day as a Pagan holiday for Saturn and Mithra.
Yea literally all holidays are pagan, I'm sorry for spreading misinformation.
No worries, I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking that Jesus was born on that day considering how often it is repeated.
I should correct myself also and say some scholars give dates other than August too. Though none think that it was in December. One of the reasons being that the sheep that are mentioned would not have been out in the field during winter.
"Is it normal I am atheist?"
Of course!! We're BORN atheists! What is NOT normal is being indoctrinated into antiquated, unproven superstition.
Christmas has become more of a commercial/traditional holiday if anything. Even many Christian families don't really celebrate it around Christ anymore. It's really not a big deal to be non-Christian and celebrate it.
Yes that's what my family does too and with the other big holidays like Easter. Just don't argue with people about religion or try to force it upon others and people should respect you for that.
You have every right to believe whatever religion or lack of religion you want and think that all others are wrong. However keep it to yourself otherwise you are a jackass. The all caps and bad grammar aren't helping you out either. Just calm down.
I'm an atheist too. I think it's funny how you say that it's natural for us atheists to believe that we're smarter and shit (which is true) yet you can't even spell the word "beliefs" right.
It doesn't occur to you and Soup1090, that the entire planet doesn't speak english on daily basis, does it?
And not only it's not my native language, also not the first of choice.
Or, there is an English speaking Boypole24 that is hitting himself for not looking up that word before he wrote it down.
I almost posted a comment rebuking you but that would be hypocritical beyond belief. Respect other people and play nice. You have valid points and so do others. Have a nice day.
No it's not normal and God will punish you for this. So start believing or else!
I celebrate Christmas still. Yeah, it's celebrating Christ but its sort of a tradition now. I was brought up with Christmas but never went to church. It's just a tradition for me.
You celebrate what, gift-giving day? Aye, me too! It's not really Christmas anymore, for it is about presents and Santa and the like. Very few people celebrate it because it is the day of birth for their deity. Aye, tis natural.
Where I live I celebrate Deepavali, Christmas and Easter. All as an Atheist. I have no problem enjoying the traditions.
Yes, of course it's normal. It has become a cultural celebration in many countries, rather than a purely religious event. It's a time to get fat, exchange presents and try and lift the mood in those places where it gets pretty cold.
So do I and I also celebrate Easter to some extent. However, I don't give up anything for Lent. Christmas is becoming more of a commercial holiday like St. Patrick's Day or Valentines is. It's normal, but as always, there will be some people who will disagree with you celebrating it.
Yeah I celebrate Easter too. Yeah, I will try to keep an open mind and be accepting and not force my views.
