I just don't know its been a problem ever since I started school. 2 years ago I heard "The eyes are a gateway to the soul" dunno where the hell I heard it but now I hate eye contact even more and when people stare at me it feels like there looking into my soul. Especially if they have those icy eyes. Its like they're eyes are piercing my soul....
I understand how you could be timid about this but try and conquer this, embrace it. I work customer service and I never used to look people in the eye. I had to force myself to and now I feel more of a connection to people, an affinity. I see them as people, not mindless consumers. I think its very human and sincere to look some people in the eye. I don't think you're alone on this one, some people divert their eyes when I look at them.
I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet, but have you considered looking into the possibility that you may have an autism spectrum disorder? Being uncomfortable with and avoiding eye contact is one of the most common symptoms.

I can. No such thing as a soul btw. It's called consciousness and when you die it ceases to exist.
I tend to be distrustful of people who won't look me directly in the eye. I think, "what is this person trying to hide?"

Not being able to look someone in the eyes is a sure sign of lack of confidence with yourself.
Probably one of the biggest turn offs for girls is a guy who can't look them in the eyes.

And no women don't think guys are cute if they can't look them in the eyes.

So, if I look at you with my dark brown (almost black) eyes, you'd be scared? XD
People can't actually see into your soul. And it is a good thing (eye contact), cause it means respect. If you were talking with me and were staring at your shoes, I'd be offended. Eye contact means that you are man enough to make a propper conversation and that you have some respect with the person you are talking with.
