I do that all the time, but I get mad when it doesnt stop on a number ending in 5 or 0. The doctor says im OCD, maybe you are too.
I used to have some stuff like this that really dominated me when I was smaller. Sometimes I would spend half an hour walking in patterns in the tile in our kitchen. Doing it for fun is fine, but if it gets to the point where you can't NOT do it, I might get some help
One of my friends used to have a tick where he would repeat the ends of his sentences to himself. Later it became a really, really bad stutter and I think it was also the indication of a mild mental condition.
I usually count stairs, foot steps, when exercising I count how many reps I do (which is fairly normal) but bites I take, times I move my arms or legs, how many words someone else says, it's weird, and sometimes annoying because there is so much going on in my head at one time.
I don't count words all the time but occasionally I do.
What I do more often is count my footsteps and try and walk a number of paces divisible by ten, or set myself targets when walking. It seems to me like you're just a very observant, smart person with possibly a habit or maybe even a splash of OCD. You may be in the minority but this does not make you completely abnormal. I wouldn't worry about it.
^ True or how about the full stops, commas, semicolons, apostrophes etc etc
