When I hear about a death of a person, I don't care. I mean, I don't even know them so why care for them? I don't care that homeless man got ran over by a car. Somebody dying just doesn't affect me. Is this normal?
If you don't know the person, then you probably shouldn't worry too much about their death. However, that doesn't mean you can't have respect for their life, and feel sorry for those who knew and loved them.
That's okay, I'm just the opposite sometimes, when a complete stranger dies, I see the spouse, children, or even pets or things they were trying to get done before they died and can get all emotional about it.
I had a friend who's wife died, I knew her and I guess would say we were friends but her death didn't hurt me near as much as seeing how much it hurt her husband. He was, for a long time, one lost soul.
I think I feel the same. Maybe unless I was very personally close with whoever dies. Or maybe I actually just don't mourn things the same way I did before.
So far the only death in my life that has truly upset me was my dog. Its not because I see dogs as more worth than humans, but because we were personally really close. I heard about my grandmothers death not too long ago, and I did like her as a person, but for whatever reason could not feel anything. However we were somewhat distant from each other, as we live far apart and it normally took months before each time I meet her. Maybe you have to go to the place they used to live, or alternatively witness their death in order to actually feel like they're dead.
