Is it normal i don't like to hug?

I can't stand hugging people. I'll hug someone with one arm and not even let hardly any of my body touch them. The problem is, I want to have kids someday, and I'm afraid of not being able to hug them. Is it normal to be like this?

I don't like hughing anyone either.. But I do love hugging my gf. If you can hug your loved ones or someone who you're close but not other people then I guess it's normal but not hugging your dear ones is kind of strange.. I have had instances where people have tried to hug and I ended up shaking their hands :-P

It depends. Are you averse to other forms of touching, especially when it's unexpected or not initiated first? Do you dislike clothing tags, clothing seams or other materials? Are you sensitive to noise, smell, taste, texture or bright lights? If so you may have a sensory processing problem. It's not a horrible thing; sure it's not fun to live with, but there's many resources on the internet in which you can learn to cope with it better.

If it's just a dislike of hugs or even touch that doesn't hinder with your life in any big way, it's pretty normal. It's pretty common with introverts to dislike hugging because it's very stimulating. I'm an introvert and I initiate hugs, but only with family members or extremely close friends. I don't like hugging people just to hug them; it has to be meaningful. It's not the feeling of touch that bothers me, I just don't like giving out random hugs, but I DO give them out when I feel very comfortable with someone. This is probably the way you are, and if so it's normal and I wouldn't worry about it.

    • Thank you SO much! This was very informative and I can agree to many things you stated. Yes, cloathing tags bother me, along with certain materials. I find hugging awkward, like you said, it just seems too stimulating.
Thanks again for all the help!

I don't like hugging people much, either. Unless I'm particularly close to them, say, a hello/goodbye hug with friends, but I won't initiate it.

I work with kids, and I don't have the same problem with them. I love them so much I really want to hug them more than I actually get to, and I absolutely love it when they come up to me for snuggly cuddles.

    It's different. I dunno why.

    • See? That's the way it is with me! I don't get it, but it's true, it is somehow different.

    Hugging leads to fellatio.

  • There's nothing better than a genuine hug in my opinion. I hate when people pat you on the back when they're hugging you :/

For me it depends on the situation and who I am hugging. For instance, if it's someone like a relative or a acquaintance that I'm not fond of, I won't want them to touch me. Sometimes, I am fond of a person and I want to hug them but I'll get uncomfortable if there are allot of people around us. I get worried that they are staring at us or might get the wrong ideas of the levels of our relationship. I'm fine at hugging in privacy or in a area with few people.

There's your problem, you don't have to stuff every person you hug. :P

But I like hugs. I've been told I'm a good hugger.
