Is it normal i don't understand the love for gta v?

Everyone I know are talking about the game like it is the best thing that has ever happened to them. Sure it's a good game but it's just a game! Not anything to go so crazy over.
My friends insist on playing despite doing things that aren't fun such as doing the same race over and over by themselves to get money. Why?

    GTA San Andreas will always be my favorite.
    Sure, the graphics back them are outdated, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a great game.

    I know, I loved it when I started playing it,
    I even went ultra geek going over every little thing for added immersion, but after about 20 hours I just stopped playing, I think it's half the fact I spend too long pissing around doing nothing and I got over familiar with the game mechanics and half to do with the fact the story is meh at best,
    It started good, I wanted to know more about their past with each other but then there was a whole load of doing nothing before it got back to it.
    I wanted to love it, I did love it, then Ijust lost interest

      Then again I got bored of the mechanics after 30 hours, I've played games for over 80 and have not gotten bored,

        Yeah its a bit repetitive there needed to be side activities like in saints row. In Gta all I do is go from mission to mission theres nothing else to do.

    The last grand theft auto game that I played was vice city. Other than that I very rarely play video games at all and if I do they are the old school consoles like sega genesis or super nintendo.

        The first and last video game i played was Tom Boy on the Atari, when i was like 8 years old. Video games are for children. Adults who play video games have no life and have never matured.
