Is it normal i haven't made a high score on the act for college?

I've taken the national ACT test 4 times already and I haven't gotten a high score. I think it's due to not studying beforehand. The first two times I took it I got a 16 and then the next two times an 18. I want to aim a 24. I'm been taking ACT workshop classes to help me get a high score. What are ways I can study or do to get that 24. I need advice. Any help will be appreciated! I will take the test again in less than 2 wks! I really need to score high. If I don't get a 24 I will be devastated even more than before. Any smart people out there that have scored high, what is your advice?

try to focus on Math. Math on the SAT is really just grade 6-9 math. While things like reading, writing are built up over time (i.e through reading books, journals, newspapers or magazines) math can be studied. Especially if your math mark is low, it can be improved easily in 1-2 months of studying. Reading is harder to prepare for but do practice and read books. I was subscribed to news magazines throughout high school and I read newspapers often (on public transit). Either way, its important to start preparing in advance. I started to prepare for SATs 3 months before my test. I finished an entire prep book from start to finish during my prep. In the end, I had a super harsh essay reader and my essay mark was horrific (compared to my practice essay scores). Source: 2170 on SAT, 8 on essay

We "smart people" only score high cause we just no the stuff. That's basically all it comes down to. If you're not getting a good enough score then maybe try getting a one-on-one tutor or find a good book specifically for this year ACT.

Oh, yeah, and because it's multiple choice, if you completely don't know the answer, pick C!

Biggest part is that anxiety will hurt, not help. So just relax and focus. Here are my tips:

You should study well in advance. Pick your weakest subject first, work on that a couple weeks, take practice tests, etc. Then the next-weakest subject, & so on. Keep refreshing your memory of the subjects you already did. There are a TON of free online practice tests on the internet, just Google them!

Don't be afraid to get some tutoring.

Don't worry if you'll have to take it again, just focus on this time.

Remember what you had difficulty with on the last test? Remember any questions? Work on them! Use your past experience to your advantage!

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember is that is is almost exclusively a multiple- choice test. So if you get stuck, use logic!

Also, the ACT works by giving you 1 point for a correct answer, or 0 for a blank or wrong. You don't get penalized for wrong answers so NEVER EVER leave any answers blank, even if you have to guess.

These guidelines are what I lived by my senior year and it got me my 33. If you have a basic knowledge and good logic, you can find the answers (though that is NOT an excuse to not study :-P ) good luck!

I wish I knew what the ACT was... I never took an ACT or SAT and I probably should before I start applying to other universities...

    Just ignore me... I'm thinking...

I got a 28 when I took it the first time as a junior. I dk...if you didn't pick it up through high school, you're probably screwed. You can try to get study books at a book store but really, if you didn't learn it through your years in high school, you're not going to learn it now.

In order to get a 2400 you need to be suppppeeerrr smart and naturally talented in all those subjects. But an 1800 is not that bad, don't bring yourself down! Have you considered taking the SAT? Maybe you're better in Math and reading.
