Is it normal i live in roleplay?

Ooc: I live, online and offline, in roleplay. I am a furry, and my fursona usually speaks instead of the real me. I have to say its me talking if I want to talk, or online I use parenthesis or an Out Of Character mark (like the one tagged before the first line). I found myself talking to my parents on the phone yesterday, as my fursona, Shadoww, while my mother is wondering why I wasnt acting myself. IIN? At all?

I can't relate to that, no.
Try to find out your identity. Learn how to differentiate between you and shadoww.

Or... you could start an underground boxing club with shadoww and form a plot to destroy all the buildings that hold credit cards' records. That'd be kinda cool. Maybe start off by befriending a guy with big tits?

Even if the OP did, they probably wouldn't say anything about... :(

  • My boss is just like this. He loves Dungeons and Dragons. Perhaps even a little too much.

Anyway one day as I was making my way to the break room I saw him and said, "Harken, my good wizard! Might I partake of the fabled black liquid within which will strengthen my soul for another day's journey?"

But then he responded in some kind of RP monologue and things just got weird....

Its normal to want to roleplay, but to do it all the time, no, not normal. Your fursona seems to be taking over you, id suggest going to a psychiatrist.

    Hiya,

"Harken, my good wizard! Might I partake of the fabled black liquid within which will strengthen my soul for another day's journey?"

That is brilliant. I'm the same way with fantasy – most of the fairy tales I grew up with, characters talk like that. I dread to think what I’d be like if I didn't rein it in. Just remember you're not Shadoww & you'll be all right.

    That's fucked up.
How did you start being a "fursona"?
I'm pretty certain something is psychologically wrong with you. Maybe dissociative identity disorder, I don't know. You should go to therapy.

Roleplaying for fun with other people who roleplay is fine, but it's unhealthy to do it all the time. If other people don't realise that you're roleplaying, then you're not roleplaying, you're lying about who you are. If other people DO know that you're roleplaying, then you're limiting your potential relationships (romantic and otherwise) to other furries who are ok with not actually knowing you. I don't think there are very many people who are ok with being friends with people whose personalities they know nothing about.

You can't have healthy relationships (again, romantic or otherwise) if you're constantly pretending to be somebody you aren't. If you feel compelled to do this, talk to a therapist. Don't push everybody who knows you away for the sake of a character who isn't even real.

It doesnt seem normal especially that you talk to your parents that way, but i guess it really depends what your fursona is like compared to your real self. I can understand you though, Ive had a similar problem. Im wondering if you also a fursuiter, and where you use your fursona or where it originated.

No. No we are not alike. Ooc: Well in perspective, me and Shadoww seem the same. But there's a lot of things different between the two of us. No, im not a fursuiter. Not yet. I don't have the money to purchase a fursuit right now (financial problems between me and my family). I've been a furry for almost four years. If it helps, my fursona, I switch between El Diman's Tokami, and Jijix's Ransom. The appearances change slightly, but the personality is the same.

I'm the same but it doesn't bother me much. I wouldn't say it was normal, but I don't view it as a problem either.
