Is it normal i'm sick of paying $3,500 a month for rent?

New York is now the highest rent in all of the US.. I pay $3500 as one person and I have a tiny apartment one bedroom and by tiny I mean tiny. I'm sick of it. I had to take out a loan. I live with me and my son.

Prices went down now they're back up throughout city and we hit number one spot in the entire US for cost of living

My cousin lived in a tiny apartment on 49th St between 1st & 2nd Ave. The only big thing in the place was the cockroach that walked into the bathroom while I was dropping a deuce. He had a serious attitude like I was trespassing on his turf.

There was only one roach in the whole place? My experience is that where you see one cockroach, there are probably at least dozens more lurking somewhere nearby. I guess his attitude could have been due to how he'd eaten all the competition.

Even with the lights on he marched across the bathroom floor. Stopped. Looked at me with disgust and continued his march.

It’s cheaper in say Kansas, but you might take a severe pay cut.

I wonder if theres places in the usa you can make 15 an hour and do better than making 50 an hour in somewhere like new york city

It’s a shame what big money has done to the housing market. Venture capitalists are buying up houses in my area for $20k over the asking price CASH, so they can rent them for outrageous sums. I feel for you.

New York City has never really appealed that much to me.

There are many places in the USA where you would live a higher quality of life and have more effective disposable income than in the largest cities in the USA.

On the other hand, those cities have cultural and other advantages.

I grew up in a small town, have lived in medium sized cities, and now live in a small city.

While I like to visit Milwaukee and Chicago for certain museums and cultural events. I have no desire to live there. I do better economically where I live.

My mortgage payment (3BR, 2 1/2 bath) brick house with walk in cedar lined closet and full basement, and detached 24X24 2 car garage, and a fairly good sized yard is currently $513.97 per month; and the house is half paid off.

Of course you don't earn the wages that you get in NY city for most jobs either; but, there are a lot of $17 - $25/hr jobs in the area.

    • I was born here, it's all I know and my job is here. Son's school is also here along with his friends.

Yes we do have extreme taxes too. I think they don't want any middle class people in the city anymore.

Wow thats wild. We are getting a lot of people from cali and new york moving here in TN. Theres no state income tax and for 3700 a month you're talking about having a mansion with a lot of land. I get your situatiom tho its good for the kid to grow up with his friends and not moving
