Is it normal, i really don't understand why people do this?

I really don't understand why it is expected of everyone to thank the bus driver? I have paid him/her to do a job, in fact I have paid an extortionate price so why do I have to pay and then thank them. Futhermore the driver must be sick of it, a constant stream of people shuffing past mumbling a half sincere thank you and the driver has to resond to every person in the line, some don't even bother, they might not even hear it as they're staring into space yet we still go through the motions. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Well the way I've always seen it is that the driver has a crummy job where they have to interact with the public constantly and deal with difficult passengers. They get a lot of abuse on an almost daily basis so it's nice to let them know that at least some passengers appreciate the job they're doing. Same reason why you would thank someone in a store for helping you find something or for processing your purchases.

I find a lot of bus drivers to be quite sound people, the few I've spoken to are also appalled at how high bus fare prices are going. They don't have any control over prices.

Did your mother not ever teach you this? When someone does something for you the custom is to thank them. If someone gets your a gift for your birthday you thank them. Even if you spent the money to throw a party and its rude to not bring a present. You are suppose to tell them thank you. Though for my school the bus driver we had was a dick hated me and told me not to ever talk to her and made me sit in the back of the bus. So I just kind of ignored my bus driver since she hated me. You may not have learned manners as a child but most people do.

How am I a hypocrite? I actually do thank people. When people give me a gift I say thank you. When people do me a favour I thank them. Its called being polite.

You thank people out of appreciation. If you are thankful for the service then you may say thanks, if not just stroll on by the driver, the world goes on. Who gives a fuck...

  • I don't say anything to bus drivers, nor have I seen others do so.

I haven't taken a bus since my last day of high school, but I did always thank the bus driver. He was very nice, I was the only one who would thank him.
