Is it normal i think religion is stupid

This crops up a lot on this site (and the internet in general). It's so tedious.

Yeah, there are religious people, there are crazy people, the two aren't always mutually exclusive. Yeah, there are people who believe things other people think are crazy, surreal, irrational etc. Yeah, there are people who use religion as a justification for committing atrocities. Yeah, lots of people think the same thing as you - that there is no god - and yeah, to these people, generally, it's hard to understand believing in something for which there is no concrete evidence. Yeah.

BUT saying "all I ask is that you do not judge me or insult my opinions" is ridiculous after you call billions of people's opinions stupid and judge them. Just saying, it's not one rule for you, one rule for everyone else.

I saw a post a few minutes ago and it was asking if you think atheism (the denial of God in this case) makes people a better member of society. When i saw this and read the comments i decided to create this post. So my question is, is it normal that i think atheism is stupid?
I think that atheism is stupid and blinding some people who are non-believers to put their blinders on and ignore so much because their non-belief doesn't allow it. Also their are so many up-tight atheists who only act like pompous assholes.

I understand that some people "discover" atheism and it helps them "understand" how they live/lived.
Another reason why i think atheism is stupid is because there is obviously a God. So many things are explained by faith and the bible. Also, if there really is no God, then why do miracles and good happen? The holocaust, communism, and terrorist are a few things that show forces opposing God exist.

My last example, terrorists, brings me to another point. So many people use atheism as an excuse to do others harm. I know that this post is getting long so i will end it so it does not get too boring. i realize that many people will be insulted by this post, all i ask is that you are not judgemental of me, and you do not insult me or my opinions. Please comment with any questions or responses to my thoughts.

I once had a southern baptist tell me that I was going to hell because I told him his religion was stupid.

I retorted that if heaven is full of folks like him, I'll be quite happy in hell.

Religion isn't stupid; people are. God doesn't let suffering happen; people do. God just doesn't interfere because almost all suffering is brought on by people. Even diseases- spread by ignorant people who don't know any better. The only way God could change this is by taking away free will- which would be a complete contradiction to what he teaches as right and fair.
Also, you cannot disprove God's existence anymore than one can prove it thus far.

Great, another self righteous atheist who thinks he owes it to the world he thinks religion is stupid. Congratu-fucking-lations, you are an atheist. Now get off your high horse and do something productive. Being an atheist doesn't mean you're automatically smarter than people with faith.

I hate militant atheists and militant religious fanatics. Why can't they just be civil and tolerate or even accept religion or atheism?

For the most part i agree.. I'm an Athiest, but sometime i turn to satan for advice on everything from making perfect coffee & on how to eat bagels.

ur close minded.there is so much we humans do not know about. we have so much to learn about.you might not want to believe in a "god",but you are foolish. anthropologists, scientists, and doctors are still discovering new things today. you can't rely on science to prove everything. soon you will learn though, and discover the greater power among us. don't call religion stupid. i know some people do use it as an excuse, but they are also probably narrow minded in a sense. some day you will realize the greater force, power, and energy. we all will.

It depends what you mean by religion. I believe in and love God/Jesus, but I hate when people are discriminatory in the name of "religion," because if God exists, which I believe he does, I think he wants us all to treat each other equally. I was raised Catholic, I don't consider myself "religious" though. Simply believing and praying is enough for me.

Religion exists so people would have hope and think that someone is looking after them. The truth is, "God" isn't going to save you if you don't save yourselves.
Religion is good if we understand that they all bring us the same message. But many people who are fanatics think all people who don't worship God as they do should drop dead. And that is how a war is made.

I don't think having a belief is stupid. There are intelligent Christians and there are stupid ones, but that also applies to those who don't believe in God. I think the stupid people are the ones who ignorantly put down other religions and beliefs by calling them "stupid" just because you don't agree with them.

I think religion causes a hell of alotta fights. It's stupid. Who believes that a guy floats in the clouds and owns a floating town where people go when they die? When you die, you goin in the ground. Yes I agree with you 110%.

I have friends who are Christian, Muslim, and Jewish... I have to say they are amazing beautiful people who I admire. They're not the bigots you see parading their religion around, or hypocrites. They practice what they preach. They give me hope. I also have friends who are Agnostic and they are equally just as inspiring. Religion and beliefs can be a beautiful thing. I do not consider the bigots and hypocrites to be true followers of religion for they practice the complete opposite.

Personally, I am an atheist but I can always love and tolerate so long religious people will not harm any of my rights...

However, the picture the OP has in mind of a god is pretty basic... the caring god helping everyone bla bla bla... No one ever said god was caring; the bible states that he is also a punishing god --> he is the judge...

I am not sure whether to believe in a higher power may we call it god... there simply are soo many things we do not know... we only know that we do not know which makes me take the existence of some sort of "god" into consideration but so far I tend to rather not believe in a god and well...

After all, whatever floats your boat you may do what you want^^

It was too long but judging by the title I agree with you. Religion is idiotic.

Whether you believe or not, I do agree that religion is stupid. It's relatable to politics. There are extremists on both sides and with so many religions, it becomes a self fufilling prophecy where an all out war will break out. I believe that they are all the same and mere guidelines to a nice population which would make for a beautiful life. The "scary" parts are there to deter us. We, as humans are idiots and interpret it way too many ways. I am one who believed, who became agnostic, and slowly but surely becoming an atheist. I do not down people's beliefs. But the idea that YOUR one religion is right and any others will be punished is just not....idk the words to explain it. I'll just agree with saying it's stupid

I suggest you to read Chesterton's Orthodoxy, and then Michel Onfray's Atheist Manifesto and L'Art de Jouir, and then decide which side you'll take.
