Is it normal i want a pet shai hulud after seeing one in a movie?

I recently watched a movie in which a Shai Hulud played a role(don't want to spoil it for anyone).

I find they are just adorable! is it normal after seeing it in the movie i absolutely want one for a pet? I know you can raise them in a large terrarium, and that they are quite hard to raise, but i read up and saw you could even RIDE on one once they are grown.(So obviously i would need a large outdoor area with little rain to keep it once grown.)

If anyone knows of breeders or shops that usually have one in stock, please let me know in the comments!

Yeah but the Makers don't do so well in moist environments.

Not to mention, where are you going to put it? It's not as if it'll fit inside your house. More like your house will fit inside it!

hehe, yep, hence the large outdoor area with little to no rain :)

I was thinking near an oasis in the central sahara, possibly? Let it free-roam, mostly-
just wanted to keep it vague and see who figures it out just from the info given :) so far you and dappled are the only ones-...pity, it's a great book series/movie.

heh that's why i tried to be vague in my answers too.

the audiobook is also pretty interesting, although they have an annoying habit of having multiple people read the same character's lines.

it got a bit annoying. but other than that it was a fun book to listen to while driving etc.

Someone's been watching one of my favourite films. :P

If you find a breeder and (s)he also has any of the spice Melange available, I'll take it off your hands at any price.

Heh. I've seen both versions now - the original and the miniseries.

I liked how the original did the internal thoughts cos those were *so* important to the stories. The miniseries had to invent dialogue to save the important internal-thought lines. And I rather felt that they paid better attention to the "good doctor" in the original than they did in the miniseries.

But the miniseries has its good points too. Like how the "weirding way" wasn't some hyped up sound gun (although nice play on using "my name is a killing word") and was instead a fancy martial arts style like it was in the story. Plus the blue eyes were pretty cool. And the miniseries didn't have the stupid cat-milking or heart-plugs thank goodness.

And of course a special nod to the "clone" in the miniseries sequel. It's nice seeing "Atherton Wing" playing a guy who's not a total ass ;)

And as a side note, original movie... DANG. Piter's eyebrows deserve their own listing in the credits. I'm sooo not surprised he had to shave those caterpillars off for LOTR.

I've heard rumors that there's going to be another version done - a combination of what worked in both versions, but I haven't heard much on it lately. Maybe there's no $?

I was only vaguely aware of the miniseries. You've piqued my interest there. I had no idea they wanted to remake it, either. I love the film so much that I'd feel quite strange about a remake. I know it had problems but it's still so much better than all the other books/films which borrow each other's ideas rather than be original. Did you know George Lucas quotes Dune as the beginning point for Star Wars? Early drafts even had feuding houses and the spice.

Anything which borrowed from Star Wars borrowed from a film which borrowed from Dune. Doubly derivative. I wonder where the Frank Herbert is for our modern day. :/

i thought they were at least. ah. imdb lists it under 2014 now. in development.

think they're still trying to get backing.

and yeah my bf said that too - that george was inspired by the story.
i think it was the first major sci-fi story that had it's own world that had nothing to do with Earth. (except as a tiny bit of ancient history)

I did some searching around and found this:

            http://www.moongadget.com/origins/dune.html

That table comparing Star Wars and Dune is just scary. I only spotted a third of those similarities. And I didn't recognise that Dune borrows from Shakespeare (himself a borrower). I guess there are no new stories.

haha...awesome! I love the little comic below, too :)

As for the new stories, there are, but ultimately, they are always dependent on science and technology...

everything that could be imagined, has been done one way or the other already...so only beyond imagination will we find new ideas, and those limits are only pushed as we push on the frontiers of science itself... ^_^

              Weeeeeeehhhhh.....!
