Whenever I submit a story I wonder if it will be hacked and everyone will find out that it was me who wrote it. I worry that my family will find out my secrets or my friends. I even worry that other IIN'ers will do it too. Am I the only one who worries about this? It is not a major worry but I think about it every time I make a story, including this one. lol
Well, yeah, a fear of being hacked is pretty normal. It's an invasion of your privacy.
I've been on IIN for a couple of years and I've only ever seen two or three incidents that looked like hacking. None of them were malicious and none of them identified anyone.
The biggest chance of misuse of your account is your own negligence. Leaving yourself logged in on a public computer, for instance. If you play safe, you'll be safe.
The chances of friends or family even using this site is tiny. Even if they did, they'd have to work out your username. Trust me, this is as close as you'll get to anonymity.
My wife hacked mine - one of the reasons I haven't been around much! Mind you, I've only ever commented, never been an OP - more through finding out that whatever I was going to ask has already been asked (and is hence somewhat normal) than through fear of being hacked. Hey, is THAT normal?
Who cares? Finding out that "Valkeer" (for example) is the OP of any story here is like someone taking off a mask only to reveal another mask beneath.
Nothing was revealed other than some moniker you use for this site.
I used to be TERRIFIED of my you tube channel being hacked. Sometimes, I still am, but you just gotta not worry about it. Most likely, it won't happen.
Yes, it's normal. I doubt it'll happen, though. You don't need to be afraid. You're safe here with us.
Maybe you should create another account where you can create all your posts? Although, I don't know how much of a difference that will make.
To the OP- if you're that worried about protecting your anonymity, there are several ways to increase your internet security. Do a little reading. Research which options seem best for you, a lot of them are free. I'm sure you'll have more peace of mind once you get some information and tools under your belt, plus your computer will be more protected from malware.
Years ago - I'm talking about 2006-07 there was a serious flaw with the Anonymous system. All we needed to do was to "reply" to the OP comment and it would show as "@:name of person".
There was also a flaw with membership where people could somehow copy names on here. I was banned for that even though I was the one who showed fucking Udi and warned him.
I would be amused if one of my friends started posting comments as me. But I wouldn't like it if people I didn't know were doing it.
Just say billions use the internet or that someone stalks and pretends to be you to mess with you.
I don't worry about this much. The site is pretty secure and I don't let anyone use my computer. A good way to protect yourself is to set up a password, never leave your laptop unattended, etc. If you want to take an extra precaution, you could create another account for your submissions.
