Is it normal i would run out in traffic to save my pet?

Last night I had a dream that my cat ran out into the street. I saw some cars coming, so I ran out into the street in an attempt to protect my cat from being hit. During this dream, my thought was that I would rather risk being hit than watch my beloved pet be mowed over in front of me and have that painful memory for the rest of my life. Besides, a car is more likely to hit the brakes for a human than they are a cat.

That was a dream, but it does reflect how I feel consciously. is it normal that I feel the risk of injury (or even death) is worth being able to save my pet from harm?

If you have a pet, like a child, it is your responsibility to care for that pet as well as you can. As you said, a car will most definitely brake for a person, rather than an animal, so it really is the right thing to do.
However, on the other side of the coin, we must all train ourselves to hit an animal in the road, rather than kill everyone in the car trying to avoid it. This is something EVERY driver must learn, as hard as it is to do. The cemeteries ate full of those that didn't learn this lesson.

  • I would do the same for my cats. I even have done this for one of my cats. He probably wasn't going to get hit but he was being stupid in the road and I ran in front of the car and he slammed on his breaks. I love my cats and am not afraid of risks. Death and injury can happen at any moment and it's best to not waste life in fear of the inevitable.

Im sure thats what every nerdy cat owner thinks before their cat actually runs into traffic.

Well they dont always see an animal. Especially big trucks like an 16 wheeler since they are so high up. They probably are more likely to stop for you but I think sometimes they cant always in time.

I almost drove my car into a ditch because of a weiner dog and I'd do it again.

I would do it too. Luckily, my cat seems very attached to the house. However, I still have had nightmares of her getting lost, escaping, killed. It is so nerve-wracking.
